I have no idea since I haven't ever been down there, but I'd imagine they would let you cancel it if you haven't signed anything or paid anything towards it.

We're struggling with the same thing - how to do some kind of a reception without spending a boatload. We were thinking using our cocktail reception (which we'll get free) as our reception, and add the iPod option to it. Then, we'll just go to one of the restaurants for dinner.

Jennifer- We started out with Maribel and now have Claudia for our WC. We're only four weeks out and just changed our dinner plans last week, she didn't seem to mind.

After going over our options we decided to have our reserved dinner the night before the wedding. Our ceremony is at 4:00..then on to the pics...then we reserved the Tucan terrace for our cocktail reception from 6 to 9.

I've heard that there's plenty of food included with the cocktail reception and because we get the first hour free we're just going to add on to that. There were others that did this (Betsy?) and it turned out to be a great money saver and a great time.

We've added lounge furniture and are renting the sound/light music system.

I think you have time to change your mind several times yet!

Yep, tossing out the private function looks like a big savings, that's what we're doing.

Nibsmom- I see you're also from WI, have you had the apostille document attached to your birth certificates yet? Just wondering if you sent them to Madison or had that done somewhere else...

Speaking of appostille and authentication documents, my wedding coordinator said that as of 2 weeks ago you no longer need them!!!

Hey momslehcar!

I do live in WI now, but I was born in MA. So, I had ended up having to do mine in Boston. I did it all by mail though! Real easy!

That's crazy! I just checked their website though and it said you still need them. How much easier would it be if that's true!!

As of two weeks ago the Mexican government notified us that it is no longer necessary to bring an apostille/authentication document in order to be legally married in Mexico so you guys will be fine.

I just called the Moon Palace directly and they are telling me the same thing. I have just emailed our WC, Maribel, just to confirm this and what is now required for documents. The lady at MP said that all we need are our birth certificates and passports?! This would be wonderful and save us alot of money!! Here is to hoping..

I know this would save us so much money too. It bad that I had to ask and they wouldn't inform the brides to start off with!!! Oh well 1 less thing checked off the list!
