All of the steelers garters I've seen are tacky as hell

I didn't wear a garter and I'm glad I didn't.  I think it probably would have falled down all night because it was so hot and sweaty under my dress!!  We also weren't doing the garter or bouquet toss so its something I skipped.

Does anyone know how to MAKE a garter? I want one, maybe even just to put on at the end of the night. My BM found FI's tartan in a ribbon while in Scotland, and got it for me with the idea of me making it into a garter in mind. I would love to do it, but I am terrified of wrecking it! Any ideas?
