Candy dessert bar

Recommended Posts

Ok I don't know if there is a thread on this already so I apologize if there is. I was wondering if anyone is doing the candy dessert bar where you put out all different kinds of candies in jars and/or bags and you let your guests take them as a treat or favor at the end of the wedding. I was thinking that depending on what colors I choose for my wedding I would like to do something like this:

Perfect Palettes: Pink And Gold

Instead of bags though I was thinking of getting clear jars and putting a clear monogram on each jar. I thought this might be cute.

I was thinking of doing personalized M & M's for the kids at the wedding, but my name doesn't fit on the M & M so I am not sure about it yet. I also thought about doing the cupcake thing but only for the kids, the cake we are having made will probably be enough to give to almost all the people, but I thought it might be fun to set up a kids area with coloring books, cupcakes etc.

I am planning on one at my AHR, I am going to use Mexican candies, and the setup will be in this little wagon-

It belongs to a friend of mine and I borrowed it once for this event I planned and coordinated. I will wait until later in the night to wheel it out- Not sure of container types, but will us very small simple brown bags with our monogram printed on stickers. Maybe a sombero or two with candies in the brim. I do not have all the details worked out. One of those things I will end up winging in the end.

Will be hard to travel with all that candy? I am also wondering if you will be able to get through customs. I really don't like the candy idea. I attended a wedding where they had candy on the table and the only reason I ate it was because I was starving. They served dinner super late.

I like the idea, personally. I don't know about the customs thing either, though. Still, if you can get the candy down there, (or even maybe have it shipped down to the resort when you order it?) it would be fun. People don't have to eat it if they don't want to. You might want to re-think the glass jars, though. Paper or plastic bags would be much easier and lighter for you to transport, and your guests might not want to carry glass jars with them in their bags. You can still do a monogram on a bag.

Glenda, that could be a real cute and less expensive idea. Like the ladies said it would depend on how much it would cost to ship though. Although maybe some traditional mexican candy bought in mexico could be a posibility also, then you would just have to ship the little jars...

Angie I love you b/c you tell me straight up that you don't like the idea! LOL. Actually I was looking candies up online but then I realized that they melt and they don't recommend sending them to places with warm temperatures. So much for that idea. And actually I wasn't going to give my guests jars, I was only going to place the candy in the jar. I would have bags for them to put as much candy as they like to take with them. But now that I think of if, I think most people won't want candy. So I'm killing this idea right now. LOL.

Glenda I so love the candy bar/ cookie bar idea. I too worried about the jars for discplay and carrying the candy down. While they do have a nice selcetion of candy in Cabo I don't think that it would present as well . Meaning all diferent colors, in wrappers and such.

I am going to purchase some cookie bags however and if the Costco has freshly baked cookies as they do here I will package and place a Sweet Dreams sticker on them. I'll probably reference something about Grandma's specialty or something.

I've realized that my wedding carry on bag for Cabo is getting pretty full. The candles are going to be the heaviest so I should probably slow down.
