Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

I hear Himitsu is the better beach because it is more private. Hmmmcocktail hour would be nice in the area they call "garden". It is located on the patch of grass behiond the gazebo. Very exciting hammering out all these details!!

Also, Cecilia did tell me that he terrace is no longer available for the cocktail hour? Any other suggestions on where I should have the cocktail hour? I plan to do the reception on the beach. Any preferrance on which beach location I should use? The one near Himitsu Restaurant or Caribe Beach?? As of right now all options are open since I am the only wedding that day (As of Feb14, 2012).

Here is a picture taken from the gazebo back towards the tower (on the left) and the end of the pyramid building (on the right).  The "garden" is the grassy area right in front of the pyramid building.

 

 

 

As for which beach...Himitsu beach is right next to Himitsu restaurant - so anyone eating out on the patio will be watching your reception.  However, no guest rooms overlook that beach.  On the Tower beach, people may walk by your reception at a distance to go to the Seaside Grill and those in the Tower can watch your reception from above.  My reception was on Himitsu and there was a great group on the restaurant terrace - we even invited a few of them down to dance with us!  Another difference, the Himitsu Beach is more narrow so you are close to the water's edge - which I liked.  Tower beach is ridiculously deep (literally a several minute walk to the water's edge) so there is a lot of space.  However, I found the sand on the Tower beach up near the resort to have shells in it - so I am not sure if that would impact your guests going barefoot.

Hi All I'm also new to this site and am getting married at Dreams Cancun on 30th April 2012 at 4pm. I'm so excited but really nervous as I don't feel like I have done nearly as much planning as you all. We have 20 people flying over from London and I (like everyone else) want everything to be perfect. I have booked in the hair appointments on the day and we are having the ultimate package but I dont have an area confirmed for the cocktail hour or the reception, should I have confirmed that with Claudia already? :confused: We aren't having a dj but are just having the sound system and thought we'd move on to the club afterwards. Does anyone know if it's any good? Is there anything else I should have Sorted out by now? Any help would be really appreciated Thanks everyone!

Hello ladies! I'm new here (I don't feel new though since I've been lurking on here for the past couple of weeks!). My wedding date is Friday 12/14/12. I am pretty set on that date because it is my parents' wedding anniversary and I thought it'd be special to make it ours as well. I haven't officially decided on a resort yet, but I'm leaning very strongly towards Dreams Cancun. Up until yesterday (when I heard from Cecilia), I was absolutely sure that Dreams Cancun was where I wanted to have my wedding, but it turns out that the time we requested (4pm) is already taken (the sun will set at 5:09pm). Cecilia said that 2pm is still available. I've read some of the posts on this thread, and it seems like the resort is fairly flexible on the starting times for the cocktail hour and reception, right? I read a bride's post about how she was told by the WC that even in January a cocktail hour and reception at 2pm-5pm would be too hot. So now that has me worried about a 2pm ceremony in December! I get hot very easily and sweat really bad and am horrified at the thought of me sweating like a pig during our ceremony.

 

Anyway, I emailed Cecilia a couple of questions and told her I would like answers before deciding on them 100% (I was 100% until she said 2pm). I asked if it would be possible to begin the cocktail hour and reception later in the day when it's cooler, rather than immediately after a 2pm ceremony. I also asked if a reception at Himitsu Beach is still available. I'm hoping that whoever already has the 4pm wedding that day hasn't already reserved Himitsu Beach...keeping my fingers crossed...

I signed a contract with Dreams Cancun (it was a spreadsheet with signature lines on the bottom) and in that contract it specified locations for the events.  Granted, those locations could be changed, but I think those locations were reserved for me unless otherwise discussed.  I think you should definitely contact Claudia and get your locations confirmed ASAP...that is a big item to have hanging out there.

 

As far as the Desires club - it is not a very happening place.  But that can be a good thing, because you and your wedding group can kinda take over and request whatever music you would like from the DJ.  So just try and convince as many people to go as possible and you will have a blast.

Don't worry about being a sweaty mess for the ceremony!  I am definitely a sweater also and the wind up at the gazebo will keep you dry.

 

I had the last wedding of the day (4:00pm) last November, but I saw several earlier weddings and can tell you what they did.  One bride actually had an 11am wedding, so she had her cocktail hour directly after the ceremony (12-1pm) inside (okay "under", because it is open) Himitsu restaurant and then had her reception at night.  Another bride had a 2pm wedding and she had her cocktail hour directly after the ceremony (3-4pm) in the "garden" and then her reception at night.  Both of those options would actually allow you to attend your cocktail hour with your guests and then go take photos before the reception starts.

Hi! I was the bride that was told that it would be too hot. We had our ceremony at 1 pm, cocktail hour at 2pm and reception at 4 pm. We stayed at our cocktail hour for about a half hour and then went and took pictures until shortly before the reception started. As for the ceremony, Courtney is right...the wind keeps you nice and cool if you are having your ceremony in the gazebo. I have curly hair and I had my bangs to the side and straightened and they actually stayed straight! It was after the ceremony that it gets really hot. We had our cocktail hour on the terrace and some people were putting their feet in the shallow pool in front of the terrace and some were in the lobby area of the tower at the bar (where the terrace is). That is when I found it the hottest. When we went to the lighthouse to do pictures it was super hot and really sunny. We didnt get a lot of good close up shots because we were so squinty but that being said our pictures still turned out amazing!!! The ceremony pictures are awesome too....Our wedding party was done with pictures a little earlier than us so they just went up to our room to cool off. When we got back to the room the guys had their shirts off and the girls changed out of their dresses to let them dry a bit. I fixed my makeup and re-straightened my bangs. Once we got to the reception at 4 pm (on Caribe beach), it had already started to cool down and I didn't find it at all too hot.

When I first found out that it was "too hot" to have everything outside, I was furious! But I decided I had to figure something out and having my reception inside was not an option (unless it rained). They will let you have your coctail hour and reception at whatever time you would like. Claudia had told me I could also have my cocktail hour at himitsu restaurant. Now, having been there, it is actually quite nice and it is an open restaurant and close to the ocean. If I had to have it at Himitsu, I would not have been dissapointed. The biggest thing for me was the color scheme. I wasn't sure what Himitsu looked like and my colors were purple, grey and black. The restaurant is black and red, so it would have been fine.

All in all, everything turned out awesome and I was actually happy with the times that I chose, even though it wasn't my first choice. I know if you choose to have your ceremony at 2 pm, you will not be disappointed. Keep us updated on what areas you can have your cocktail hour and reception. I haven't been on lately as we've been so busy with planning our at home reception and in the middle of building a house, but I will try to get on here more often!

Hi, ladies,

 

Do any of you know that if Dreams Cancun has any photographer banned to the resort?

 

I've just found out from the photography thread that some resorts ban a certain photography company to come in to the resort for some reason.

 

I am about to sign a contract with outside photographer (Ivan Luckie photography) but not sure if he is allowed to the resort.

 

Please let me know ASAP!!!

Thanks for the info ladies! I heard back from Cecilia this morning and it's all GREAT news!

 

I'm actually one of the odd ones who does not want the ceremony at the gazebo, lol. I want to be barefoot on the beach (my feet sweat bad too and I'd rather not wear shoes). Cecilia sent me a document with pictures of the floral arches and canopies for beach ceremonies AND said that since we are having our ceremony on the beach, 4pm IS available! Additional awesome news is that we can have our entire wedding at Himitsu Beach since it is still available!

 

Leigh, I love your idea of saving money on the dancefloor and DJ and instead taking over Desires, haha! That's probably what we'll end up doing!

 

So here's a pic Cecilia sent me of what's included in the beach ceremony (no extras). I definitely want some type of floral canopy to "frame" the ceremony.

Dear Gabby abbi: Iam sure your ceremony at 2:00 pm will be  perfect , actually you phtographer will be happy...because it is very good daylight so you will have plenty time for your photosession, they will allow you to have the other events later  in the day like cocktails  and reception...
