Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

the ballrooms should be nice though, and air conditioned. I'm considering doing it in the ballroom too and was worried if i'll be taking something away from the beauty of having a wedding in cancun. But your ceremony will be outside and people will be on the beach most of their time there anyway.

There were 2 nights during my 8-night trip that the wind was a problem.  One night there was a passing storm and there was wind associated with that (but there was also a quick rain shower), so you would have been moved inside for the rain anway.  The other night it was just plain windy all around.  We were eating dinner at the Seaside Grill which is directly off the sand from the large beach near the Tower.  The wind was blowing in strong enough that at times sand got picked up and you could feel it. Not that anyone was bothered enough to get up and leave the restaurant.  That night was a Monday so they had planned to put up a large screen at the lagoon and show Monday Night Football, but that had to be moved inside because the screen would not have stayed upright.

But then my reception on the Himitsu beach had perfect weather.  I am sure there was a bit of a breeze, but nothing that I took notice of.  As long as it is not gale force winds, the beach at Himitsu is protected because you are next to the restaurant and beach bar which are built into a hill/rocks.  Not sure how to explain this, but I will try.  If you walk down the sidewalk from the gazebo to the lighthouse (along the length of the ocean side of the pyramid building) you have to take a left and head downhill to get to Himitsu restaurant and Himitsu beach.  That change in elevation makes a difference in the wind.

we had our reception on himitsu beach and I can tell you I would not have changed anything. Its so much more private than the terrace and its more protected from the wind, its a nice breeze welcomed when you have a wedding gown on. We had all our centerpieces on the tables and nothing blew over. I know your heart is set on the terrace but Himitsu beach is beautiful when decorated for  a reception.

Jana-

I too was told a couple months before the wedding that I could not use the terrace for my cocktail hour and that the beach was too hot during the day so I would have to use a restaurant or ball room, and I was soooo frustrated and upset about it. About 2 weeks before we were leaving, Claudia emailed me and said the terrace was available for my cocktail hour. I almost think she had me booked in the whole time and messed up. We ended up having our cocktail hour in the terrace at 2 pm and our reception on Caribe Beach (next to the gazebo) at 4 pm. I looooved the reception! It was the most fun ever! All of our guests absolutely loved it as well! I was a little apprehensive at first, not knowing if sand was going to be blowing into our food, etc. But it was a pretty calm night, and perfect weather. If I did it all over, I would absolutely have my reception on Caribe Beach. It's also quite private as it's such a big beach. Had it been crappy out, we would've had to move the party into one of the ballrooms. It rained the day before and 2 more days after our wedding so we were extremely fortunate. However, I think no matter what you are always taking a risk with the weather and the chance that you may have to have your ceremony and/or reception inside. I would try not to stress too much over it, although I know how frustrating it can be. I hope this helps and just know that no matter where you end up having it, it will be beautiful and you will have the time of your life! Here are a few pictures of our reception...
