Here is the spa menu from last year. Obviously some prices might have changed, but you can get a general idea...

As for the rain out location... I'm sorry! i wish I would have taken a picture. i can try and explain it though. It's basically a reception hall at a hotel. It's mostly white, so any decor will work and it has a large area just outside of it which would work nicely for cocktails or just socializing. It's actually quite bright for being in a basement.

Hi All,

I'm getting married on the 25th of November at the Akumal - so it's coming up! Very excited but the stress level is going up a little.

I had a question in regards to the Reception. I'm having the dinner at Frutos Del Mar and was hoping to do my first dance, speeches and father/daughter dance there. Have any of you done all these activities at the restaurant itself?

Yuritzia is suggesting that I do a cocktail party after the dinner, but it seems a bit pricy with the DJ and the $24 per person per hour...

Does anyone know if it's possible to have a private reception at a restaurant? And if so how much does it cost? I've tried e-mailing but haven't heard a response. I'm having my wedding and January and am worried it will be too cold and windy by the pool. Has anyone been there in January? How was the weather? Thanks!

Thanks Jennifer and 1Kpaine!

I think I figured it out - I'll have my first dance right after the ceremony - on the beach and save just the speeches for the restaurant. We're apparently alone in the restaurant for the 1st hour (dinner starts at 5:30) so I'll have the speeches all done within this time.

If you have other suggestions though - I'd love to hear them!

Thanks,

Val.

Here are two wedding reviews I found on Tripadvisor. One good and One bad.

Good Ones:

Oct 24, 2008

3/3 found this review helpful

22 of us left Toronto on October 12th for a week of sun and fun, as well as the wedding of my brother. Some of us had never been to Mexico so didn't quite know what to expect....well, it was fabulous.

The drive from the airport (Cancun) can be quite long as we're one of the last resorts (about 90 minutes), but the bus is air conditioned. Check-in was easy with Mimosas served while you're waiting and delivery of both us and our luggage (even at midnight - when we checked in).

The rooms are large and quite nice with great marble bathrooms (junior suites also have a jacuzzi tub) and lots of storage. Mini fridge was nice with juice, pop, beer and treats.

The food was great, even the buffet with great eggs, hotcakes, french toast, bacon, and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables daily. The snack bars (24 hour) are great for a burger or pizza, as well as late night drinks. Dinner at the buffet was always great with a different "theme" each night.

We attended Fruitos del Mar for the wedding dinner (stuffed chicken breast or grilled salmon), as well as Arlequin for Filet Mignon, and La Gran Tortuga for the amazing meats (they keep bringing them hot to the table).

My brother and sister-in-law were married mid-week right on the beach beside the ocean. The wedding coordinator and resort were fantastic with a private dinner for us and then a one-hour private reception beside the main pool with balloons and lights and our own waitress. All week, the resort would leave niceties in their room including champagne, fruit basket, chocolate cake, and more champagne.

We were sad to leave Mexico and the GBP Akumal and will return again FOR SURE.

Not so good one:

I planned my wedding through the Bahia Principe USA (in Miami) at the resort Akumal (Bahia Principe) in Riviera Maya. The hotel property itself is beautiful, clean, well kept. However, service is extremely poor all around (managers and staff). I had been planning my wedding there for over 6 months and had roughly 45 guests attend from all over the country. My contact at BPUSA was impossible to reach (email/phone/

fax) always down. Guests kept calling me to follow up with their arrangements. Please make sure to scrutinize every document you get, because if you miss anything they charge you any which way they can - and they WILL make mistakes. Airport transfers were not arranged properly, some guests ended up paying double after they arrived even though they prepaid. Two guests were charged twice for their rooms upon arrival although the rooms were prepaid. Like I said, please scrutinize everything.

Considering the size of our group, I expected decent service at the hotel but unfortunately, it seemed no one cared until you yell loud enough which is not what you want when you are planning your wedding. You have to ask for something 10X before anyone listens. My wedding coordinator was very unaccommodating with any personal requests, and not always honest about available arrangements. You pretty much have to think of everything on your own. FYI - each of the three hotels has their own wedding coordinator so you may have better luck than I did.

I absolutely loved spending my time with family and friends for the whole week at the hotel, but only wish they just treated us and our guests better. It was like a constant cloud over my head to hear things weren't going well or the mistakes that were being made. It's been a month and to this day, I am still arguing with them over a refund that is due to one of my guests for a room overcharge. Because of this, I wouldn't recommend this hotel or would not revisit.
