Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

So....I went back to Jazmin about saying the poolside reception was a package price of $1070 and she then said that if I wished to have my own DJ I could pay the $90 fee but I would have to pay for a minimum of 50 guests for the $11 3 hour bar....which meant that the money I would have saved on the DJ meant I would have been better off having their package after all....anyway after some blagging and pleading she has agreed to let me have the external DJ and just pay for the 19 adults that I have coming at the $11pp....But just a heads up for future brides that maybe they are changing the way they do things with regards to the poolside option and not offering you the option to pay just for the amount of people you actually have anymore?? Not sure if anyone else has heard anything else or different about this?

Also I am still confused over my documents...Jazmin has told me now that as I changed my surname when I was younger that I do need to get my birth certificate and deed poll certified, apostilled and translated....does anyone know do I have to have the translations certified and apostilled too or just the originals?

We are thinking of maybe changing to the symbolic ceremony and getting legally married in the UK shortly before or after as the cost seems to be mounting up now for documents, blood tests etc. for anyone who had the symbolic ceremony I know everybody seems to say nobody will know the difference so not too worried about that but what is the difference with the requirements, do we have to marry before we go and do we have to take proof that we are married then or does that not matter and do you still have to pay the legal fee's? And I'm a little worried it won't feel like our actual wedding day even though we would class it as being??

Thanks

It's a personal choice whether to do the symbolic or legal ceremony. For us the symbolic ceremony really made things easier for us...no paper work, no blood tests, no waiting for the marriage certificate for months...especially since I had the same issue with changing my surname years ago. We didn't tell anyone that our wedding in Mexico was symbolic only and no one knew the difference. We even went so far as to stay away from our guests a bit longer the day we met our wedding coordinator so they thought we were getting our blood tests done! We went with the 4 'witnesses'  and had the ceremony 4 days after our arrival so those 'requirements' were covered as if we were doing a legal ceremony. We also signed a 'certificate' during the ceremony and no one questioned it. Just tell your wedding coordinator that you don't want anyone to know the difference and she will make it happen. They do it all the time.

As for when you get married at home, you can do it before you leave or after you come home. It makes no difference to anything that is done in Mexico. We chose to get married privately at the court house upon our return from our wedding...and we definitely consider our wedding date to be the one that was witnessed by our family and friends on the beach...we merely made it official in private when we got back. Doing this also made changing my name so much easier having a marriage document registered in my own country...not to mention the cost was significantly less and making this decision really took some pressure off of us because it was less complex.

Hope this helps you decide...either way, you are getting married! Enjoy the ride!

We used sand for a treasure box that our guests put their completed mad lib guest book sheets in. Jazmin suggested we use the sand from the beach vs. purchasing it.. We didn't take this sand home with us so I'm not sure if it would be different for favours.

why do you need to pay for the documents and blood test? I had a legal ceremony in mexico and didn't cost me anything extra, it was included in the package

Hi Girls,

I was just wondering if anyone has heard from Eugina lately? Also for the girls that had the poolside dinner and cocktail party where you able to use the resort DJâ€s microphone during dinner to make speeches?  Eugina had mentioned that we were able to use his microphone for speeches but I was hoping we wouldnâ€t have to wait till after dinner as speeches would then take away from some dancing time.

Thanks

Hi crystalz,

I have to pay for documents translating as my surname on my birth certificate and passport are not the same and we have to pay for our blood tests separately....our wedding package was only around £400 through a travel agent but we have to pay for the legal fee's and blood tests when we get there direct to the hotel. x
