Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

So I received a DJ quote from DJ Mannia and the first quote they quoted $990 for 3 hours of services.  Now this quote was just for DJ services at the reception...nothing special...no light up dance floor...no fireworks....nothing extra.  I replied back and said that quote was way out of our budget and seems very high for 3 hours of basic DJ services.  So he emails back and says the best he can do is $900.  HAHAHA  r u kidding me...sounds like a rip off to me.  Needless to say I wont be using their services!

Has anyone else received a quote from them???

OMG! Thats retarded expensive! Even the resort DJ is only $210/hr. Not entirely sure what it entails or how good they are but I woudl still choose chat over spending a grand with no frills!

Has anyone used DJ Doremixx? how does he compare to the resort DJ for Tulum??

Hi Cdillad,

It appears that i have the same set up as you - however i was going to wait to do the speeches at the dance - my fiance said that he doesn't really like that idea because then everyone is standing. How was it with having no microphone? could everyone hear alright? we have about 50 guests and my fear is everyone will be so far away!

And from the pictures the WC provided it looks like we got the same poolside package reception as you did - was it a lump sum cost for you?

Thanks! :)

I was too nervous on my wedding day to eat, but there was definitely plenty of food at Gran Tortuga.  And we had our own section to the side, so it seemed private.  There were other people on the other side of the restaurant, but I didn't even notice them.  We even had speeches at the restaurant and everything.

Hi cdillad,

if this shows up twice i'm sorry - doesn't look like it worked the first time.

It looks like i have the same agenda as you but i'm getting married on the beach (Nov 3, 2011) anyway my question is that i was going to wait to do the speechs during the pool side reception because they would have a microphone there. I'm concerned the guests won't be able to hear well at the restaurant. We have about 50 people so i'm not sure how spread out everyone would be - how did you find it for yours?

Thanks so much!

We had our reception at the jacuzzi pool at Coba. The trees and trellises around the pool were decorated with string lights and the WC's set up cocktail tables and chairs (white linens, chair bows from the ceremony, candles and a flower on the table) all around the pool so all our guests could sit while we did speeches. We had the resort DJ, who was awesome, and he provided dance floor lights and a microphone for our speeches. I honestly don't see the point in hiring an outside DJ when the resort handles it for you! And everything was amazing!!

Hello Everyone!

I am getting married at the GBP Coba April 26, 2012 and was wondering if anyone could let me know information about their dinner choices??? We will be having around 30 people going and the WC Maria has said that with that many people we can only choose one starter, one entree and one dessert.....or have a theme dinner for 30 people that would cost $83/person - personally i don't want to be responsible for picking what everyone will be eating (I would rather pick a few and then the guests pick what they want out of my selection).

Hi arielh

Ya, that's the way it is unfortunately, at least for us.  Up to 15 people I believe you can order off the menu.  16 to 30 people you get a "set menu" of your choice, but if you're over 30 you can only choose one entree for your guests.  Then I was told it was a minimum of 50 people for the theme buffets at 50 usd/person.  We're getting married at the Coba on January 17th.  When we originally booked we told Maria about 25-30 people also....we chose our favorite of the 3 restaurants and then we were told to pick 1 appetizer, 1 soup, 2 entrees (guests choose 1 at dinner) and 1 dessert.  We opted for the wedding cake instead of the cake and dessert with extra charge.  I hated having to choose the meal for all of our guests but I figured it's only one meal during their trip they might not be jazzed about.  We chose Portofino..figured you can't go too wrong with either chicken or fish
