could you please tell me what involement the witnesses have i.e do they stand at the front during the ceremony or sit with the other guests?

Do you know by anychance,if our witnesses are allowed to be related to you?? or have they got to be totally unrelated to either of us??

Yes, the symbolic ceremony looks exactly like a legal ceremony. We got married at home before we left and our guests had no idea.

Really? I've never been to a ceremony where the bride and groom don't sign the marriage certificate! But yes, during the symbolic ceremony we signed a certificate.

I can't remember now exactly what the minister said but he spoke about marriage and family and then we said traditional vows like "I so-and-so take you so-and-so to be my husband". Then we signed a certificate of marriage that is purely symbolic as well, just a keepsake for us to have of the day - not a legal document.

 

If you have special readings or vows you'd like to include, or a sand ceremony, let your wedding coordinator know and she'll work it in with the minister.

 

We didn't add anything and the whole ceremony was a total of 6 minutes, which doesn't sound long but when you're guests are sitting in 35 degree heat, they'll appreciate it!

We had a bridal party of 4 bridesmaids and 4 groomsmen so they stood at the front with us like a traditional ceremony. I would imagine if you have one witness for both sides they would stand at the front with you as well or if you would prefer them to sit with the guests you could do that too. Anything goes!

Does anyone know if they set up a bar for the poolside reception on the Coba side? I have seen on here that a couple people have said that if they have to set up a bar then it is only what you pay for, but if they use a bar that is already there then they will have all of the alcohol even if that is not what you paid for. They told me that it is going to be at the Jacuzzi bar but i was just wondering if anyone had their reception there and knows, if not i guess i will just have to wait until i get there.

I'm not sure if this question has already been answered but I can't seem to find it. I was legally married in mexico in april 2011 and am trying to figure out how to obtain a marriage certificate here in Ontario, Candada.

 

If anyone has been through the process and knows what to do please help!!!!

I had my reception poolside at Coba. It was awesome! There's a bar hut at the pool already. Our WC didn't ask what level of bar we wanted when we met with her and we didn't think to ask. We ended up having a full bar and I don't think we paid any extra for it. Don't take my word for it though...that might have been a fluke!

Thanks, I was just wondering, I was only going to do the min. at least now i know there is a chance for it to be a full bar!

I am not sure why you would want/need a marriage certificate from Ontario if you already have a legal marriage certificate from Mexico. If you were legally married in Mexico and have the legal marriage certificate from there, all you have to do is have it officially translated from Spanish to English. Once that is done you can use that to have your name changed on your drivers license etc. The only way to obtain a marriage certificate in Ontario is to be married in Ontario.

For those who are doing Symbolic Ceremonies instead of Legal Ceremonies, let me assure you as KRama has that they look exactly as the legal ceremonies and no one will know the difference. We chose to get married back home in Ontario after our Mexican wedding and just did it very quietly at City Hall. We still consider our wedding date to be the day we 'married' in Mexico.

 

The Symbolic Ceremony was performed in English (at least it was for us) and the Minister spoke about love and devotion and all of the wonderful things that go along with weddings. Although I can't remember exactly what he said, I remember coming away with the feeling that his ceremony wording was perfect for us...simple and sweet. We worked in a sand cereomony as well and even had a close family friend 'perform' it instead of the Minister.

 

Rest assured...no one will be the wiser!
