As for meeting up with people, we had walkie-talkies. The tiny ones from Walmart. They worked great. It was so nice because my husband would sleep in every morning and then go for a run on the beach. Where as I was up by 7 and ready to eat breakfast. So it was lovely to just turn on my radio and see if anyone else had theirs on and were eating. Every morning we'd find each other via the radios. It worked out great!
I agree with you!!!!!! We had a couple issues here, nothing too bad but however things do happen. I would not recommend the white board.. It basically will give people the knowledge of where you are and how long your gone. It gets very easy to have someone watch you group at the beach or poolside and loot your room while your playing and having fun.
We found that word of mouth and our group was together 90% of the time.. No one was left out unless they were looking for alone time. We all had this habit of 3pm swim up bar drinks and discuss everyones dinner plans and then arrange a time to meet at the lobby bar around 7 or 8. It'll be fine no worries

Ladies,

I'll keep it brief for now but after getting married at BHP Akumal, we had an at home reception and then just went back to Mayan Riviera for our honeymoon....I met up with Eugenia again just to thank her for everything she did for us...she loves stars so I bought her a pair of star shaped earrings...she was sooooo fantastic on our wedding.

After Yuritzia dropped the ball and was no longer the coordinator, I was thrilled that Eugenia returned all of my emails and had everything so streamlined for the day..seriously...she is young but amazing at what she does and confident beyond her years!

For our honeymoon, we even met up with her and some friends for dinner and drinks on her one night off....she is amazing and even though we flew down our own photographer...we had Jose from the resort (Eugenia has the contact info) take about ten different pictures of us...I thought they would be cheesey but we honestly loved his work...I wish I could post the pictures...maybe I can post a link to my facebook.

As for the hairdresser...unless you like stiff updos, I wouldn't recommend it...I wanted loose and natural and she pinned my hair so tight...like a prom up do...she got upset when I kept saying natural please!! This was Janet in the Tulum spa...my mom and I didn't like our hair but I needed it done and since it was a windy day, it worked out well.

I will post more information when I have it but I cannot say enough about this entire experience...our guests are still raving about our destination wedding!!

Email me at [email protected] if you want to see Jose's work...I seriously LOVED the shots that he got of us...very vintage/cool/beautiful pictures all rolled into one.

I was just picking one up at the dollar store and going to leave it outside our room. I think for the most part we will run into people easily enough, but if someone needs to find us or wants to know where we are at, then they can check the board outside our room. I am a little paranoid about letting people know we are not in the room, but at the end of the day how many people are in their room at all during the day.....of course then I read all these posts and it makes me more paranoid again! LOL So I probably won't do the white board! I love the walkie talkie idea and $20 a set is cheap enough.....even if we just get enough for parents and wedding party:) I had gotten some for my nephew a few years ago as a gift and they were bringing them along so they could stay in touch with the kids....maybe will just have to find a few more.

Hi ladies,
With the main pool their is a bridg that is pretty high and you can scout out where everyone is. we had 23 people and they we're all accounte for every day and we knew where everyone was hanging out. We had bright yellow drawsring bags and we all hung them under the grass umbrella and they stuck out. People wonder around with a drink and find you... You will find that people mostly hang out around the noisey pool and the ones that want the more quiet area find their spots and like it that way. I refused to play the social director for my wedding and people made dinner plans and trip plans and I just stayed out of it. I was really suprized when people that just met on the plane ride down grouped together for different dinners and tours. It was really kool

Hi everyone!!! I'm getting married on May 5... Soooo, about 3 months away!! Yippee!! I'm super excited, but a little nervous as of what to expect.. I've been told not to worry about anything till we get there.. so that's what I've been doing so far, but I just feel like im going to get there and be upset that nothing is planned.. I feel like a crazy person right now..lol So, I have a few questions..

What do most people do for the dinner/reception?? I would like a poolside reception, so should I do a dinner at one of the resturants, then just the reception by the pool?? Or do it all by the pool?? And which one is more cost efficiant??

If I do choose to have the dinner at a reasurant, should I book that now?? Do you have to pay per person for that??

From what i've read, you are not allowed to have outside photogragher, but is that the same if the outside photogragher is also your guest??

last question for now.. Do you think a dj is needed, or would an ipod be alright for the receptionhuh.gif

Sorry for all the questions... lolblush2.gif

another reason i wouldn't do the whiteboards outside the room is because the resort is big and some of the rooms can be quite a distance from from the lobby, beach or pool bar area. expecting your guests to walk over there everytime to find you would be crazy. telephone still works fine, you can call room to room for free.

Don't worry - you are not a crazy person! We all went through the same thing:)

You can do either a whole dinner/reception by the pool or separate the two....the dinner by the pool I was told we had to pay per person, whereas if you have dinner in an a la carte, it counts as one of the three dinners alotted to your guests - so no extra cost and they are still getting an a la carte dinner. Then the private poolside receptions have different costs, depending on what you are looking for on the bar list etc. From the numbers I got, the a la carte restaurant for dinner and then the pool side reception afterwards was better cost wise.

If I do choose to have the dinner at a reasurant, should I book that now?? Do you have to pay per person for that??
They restauarants do book up and only one wedding per restaurant is allowed that day, so if there is one in particular you are interested in, you should see if you can book it sooner rather than later.

I would also suggest if there is a particular site you are hoping to have your wedding at you try to book that as well. The WC can send you all the sites available to you - depending which section of the resort you are staying on - and photos too.

From what i've read, you are not allowed to have outside photogragher, but is that the same if the outside photogragher is also your guest??
Trisha could probably answer this better, but my understanding is you use the resort photographer unless one of your guests is your photographer. The resort cannot tell you your guest cannot take the photos, but you cannot bring in an outside photographer you have hired locally.

last question for now.. Do you think a dj is needed, or would an ipod be alright for the receptionhuh.gif
We were just going to use the ipod, but SusieQ is there right now and did this....she sent me a message suggesting if music was important to us to consider using a dj. If it is windy and the resort show is going on, the two drown out the music from the ipod. SusieQ will be back soon and can give you better advice on this one....

I know one suggestion made by the WC was renting speakers from a company in Cancun (and she would set it up) but this company said we were responsible if anything happened to their speakers and we are concerned if there is a power surge at the resort we are going to have a rental company trying to make us pay for their speakers.

In the last week we booked the resort dj for $190US an hour. Kind of bugs me because he is going to use our ipod and push play, but the music and dancing is important to us.

Sorry for all the questions... lolblush2.gif
Don't worry about all the questions! That is why we all found our way here:) Hope this helps a bit.....I am sure others will have more info and suggestions as well. Watch for SusieQ's info because like I said, she will be back this coming weekend and will have tons of really recent info to share. Happy planning!

I there i just had my wedding at the Tulum... we were offered two different restaurants for our wedding dinner the gran Tortoga or the tequila.. We choose the Gran Tortoga because of food varities. The Tequila is right next to the Gazebo and the Gran Tortoga is a 5 minute tram ride away. I loved the Gran Tortoga because we were in a corner tucked away from everyone else. That isn't an option at the Tequila because it is more open layout.

Poolside reception is available, however it gets windy there and rain can blow in quickly. We just had a poolside dance reception after dinner it cost an extra $8 per person for two hours.

I cheaped out and used an IPod and it worked.. however i found it was a windy night and the sound seemed to just blow away. There was also a very loud show going on at the same time and drown out my music... I would try to rent speakers or the DJ is music and quality is important. Good Luck Sue
