Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Nikki,

Our TA thinks Feb will be a lot cheaper than March and April... March prices soar for spring breakers and then April it is Easter. I also noticed the prices tend to go up over valentines day as well...something to be aware of. Generally, the prices I have seen for Feb has been reasonable. With that being said...I am still awaiting my quotes. My plan is to find a quote I like and then go with that....we obviously have time on our side. That's frusterating that the resort will not book the wedding without the room booked. I want them to guarentee date and location before I have my guests book. Ive read a few things or two on here about them giving different information to different bride and if we are booking so far in advance, I don't think it should be a "we will contact you two months before the wedding to plan" sort of deal. Seems like a first come first serve basis depending on the co ordinators. As for the TA mediating, mine already has made it clear that this will be her role if they are micky mousing around. I already am not to happy about the issues surrounding not being allowed to hire outside phtographers. So hopefully they will not make me mad at the beginning otherwise..I might take my business else where :P

Happy Planning! Ill let you know what quotes I get when I get some wink.gif

Also, I just wanted to give a heads up to those having a civil ceremony. I assumed that the package included all of the costs, but just found out that the blood tests are an extra fee. It costs $160US which is paid in cash to the dr........(he is making some good $$$!)
I had my location booked within a couple days of booking our trip. Pretty much as soon as the deposits were confirmed. I don't know who your WC is (I have Jazmin at Tulum) but if you are not getting the answer you need, maybe get a hold of Paloma (head WC). My TA helped me with that and got her to confirm everything and then everything else went from there.

Good Luck! If I can help with contact info or something, let me know.

Hey ladies,

it's been a long time since i've been on here, but wanted to say congrats to all the recently married ladies, and soon to be ladies.

I leave tomorrow, well, more like in 3 hours for the airport, and am pretty stoked to finally be on my way.

Take care everyone!

Raykel,

Thanks for the tips!! I will plan to pursue answers once we have our spots booked! That was one thing that made me kind of turned off was that they require you to book before confirming the wedding dates etc. I obviously, like you guys want a specific location and don't want to wait until a month before my wedding to get it confirmed! So thanks for the help. Now hopefully my TA will get back to we with rates soon!!

i didn't have to book the trip before i let the paloma know. i asked her if the date i wanted was available and she said yes. then she said i had to book the trip within 3 months to hold the date. i was having a hard time getting prices and group rate quotes that i thought were reasonable. so we booked the date with paloma in mid september and then booked our trip in mid november with a travel agent and we choose to not do a group rate quote. it was 300-500$ more per person to do that. my wedding is still 3 months away, so far we have 14 booked that i know of, could be more. most people are prefering to book their own trip so they can pick & choose which days to go.

as for locations at the resort...they are all beautiful you can't go wrong.

So for that matter anyone have any good photos of a private cocktail receptiona at Coba? Thanks so much!

I had the same concern as you...so we ended up having our reception at the "quiet" Coba pool. We had been there 2 years before our wedding so I pre-arranged this location before we got there. I had seen both locations in the past and just knew that the jacuzzi pools didn't have the space that the quiet pool did...and it was in a bit of an odd shape to make it functionable for the size of our group and the setup space that the DJ would need. In my opinion...what we chose was perfect! We had 40+ people so there was more than enough room for tables and dancing in front of the DJ as well as a cake table. It was also right next to the bar for drinks...and the kids had a great time playing on the hammocks right next to everything. We also took a dip in the pool towards the end of the night because it was SO HOT!! Myself included...wedding dress and all...heehee :)

Another thing that made it even better was that our entire group was staying in villas 22-23-24-25-26 and these are the villas that surrounded the quiet pool which made everything really convenient. Ohhh...and another thing that was quite handy was the snack bar being right across the bridge from the reception. We went with the cheapest cocktails...so if people were drinking hard liquor (rye, rum, vodka)...they could just run over to the bartender at the snack bar...although the bartender did sneak us a bottle of Jagermeister :)

Getting Dress to Mexico

So my daughters dress has alot of tulle and it not huge-but not your typical slim wedding dress..how has everyone gotten their dress to the Bahia? I e-mailed American Airlines and they cannot be certain that they will have room in the closet--I do NOT want to ship it. I have heard terrible stories about that--so I was thinking of buying a seat on the plane to set the dress in..any suggestions?
