Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hey Girls,

So it's been a while since I've posted on here - lots going on in life in addition to the wedding -- I'm graduating med school this year and found out that I matched to my first choice for residency in Pediatrics!

Anyways, here's what I've got so far:

Day 2: Welcome dinner with Taquiza buffet for all guests

Day 3: Group trip to Playa del Carmen (also planning to buy wedding favours here - any suggestions?)

Day 4: Rehearsal at Church and rehearsal dinner at Main Buffet (at Tulum)

Day 5:

Ceremony at 2 - 3pm at Xcaret (St. Francis of Assisi Chapel)

Pictures at Xcaret from 3pm - 5:30pm

Dinner at Tequila 6pm - 8pm

Private Poolside Reception 8-10:30pm

Day 6: FH and I are taking the day to ourselves - he's planning a hot air balloon ride - has anyone done this? I don't even know if it's available!

It's been a long planning process - I am definitely excited to just get down there! We have an amazingly huge party which has added to the stress -- 95 people confirmed!!

Anyways, any thoughts or suggestions you have would be greatly welcomed.

Hi Ladies, I have a few questions...

Besides the workers at the hotel, who else are we supposed to tip and how much? Ie. Photographer, DJ, Travel Agent, Yuritzia, etc.

Also, Does anyone have any interesting creative ways of reccognizing loved ones that have passed away. My mom died when I was 16, and I have 3 grandparents also that have passed and I would like to make them a part of our day in a special way.

Thanks for your help!

Only 32 days till we leave!

I did not see any hot air balloon options when we were there... has he already booked it?

As for remembering loved ones, what about putting four candles on the table in hurricane vases and having them burning through the ceremony. Or having a vase with four roses in it? I also like the idea of having a picture of your mom in a charm on your bouquet ribbon. I love that.

mayanbutterfly, congrats on your soon to be graduation and your residency! 95 people, that's impressive, you'll have such an awesome time.

i like trish's ideas for remembering your family. i've seen flowers done before so maybe the candles would more different. love the charm idea, makes it that much more special

yes i'm curious to hear if any of the past brides tipped those people. i wasn't planning on tipping the DJ, but was considering the photographer and jazmin based on their performance once i'm actually there. but i'll tip the workers at the resort and our drivers for our group excursion for sure.

less than 3 weeks til i leave. woot.gif

pick up my dress from the tailor this friday

have my shower this weekend and my legal ceremony next weekend

finishing my OOT bags and my guest book this week

now if only NHL playoffs weren't so time consuming i'd get a lot more done than drinking beer and yelling at my TV.

Exactly 30 days till our wedding and 26 till we leave.... WOOO HOOO. Just wanted to share my excitement. Still have so much to do, but the excitement makes it all worth while.

I would also be interested in any advice anyone has on tipping and how much. We always tip the usuals but unsure about people like the DJ and photographer. I know we pay them cash, so unsure if appriopriate to tip on top of that and how much.

Thanks!!! Heidi

Heidi lk, your excitement is contagious!! I just mailed my Save the Dates today!! We will also be staying at the Coba, so I am looking forward to reading your review and any planning advice you can send my way! I just got confirmation last week that we will be getting married April 1, 2010 (not exactly the date I wanted, but close enough... just as long as no pranks occur... April fools and all!)

When did you decide where and what time your dinner would be and what type of reception are you having? I'm sure you probably posted that info already, but this thread is soooo long!!

Thanks!

Julie

Hi Julie,

Feel free to ask away! I know how much info this forum gave me when I was starting out. About 3 months away from the wedding is when they will send you all the wedding package information. At this stage we filled out the marriage licence request, picked a restaurant from the selection, picked a set menu (if you have more than 15 guests), and requested to have the pool side reception with DJ. I then sent her a guest list about a month ago.

Who is your WC? We have Karla and she has been nothing but amazing so far. Very prompt and always writes me back within a few days. I am going to try and get a rough schedule of the night, from her this week. We have been given 5 pm for our ceremony (but I guess this can change based on the judge), but I am hoping for a 7 pm dinner, and then poolside from 9-11!!

So excited (still...lol)

Heidi
