Skin care for your 30s ~ HELP!!!!

Recommended Posts

Tried to post this earlier, but for some reason I don't think it did....wtf.gif

Anyhow, I've recently been noticing some changes in my face that I'm assumming are happening because I've hit my 30s =( and it is driving me absolutely freaking nuts!!!!

There's random redness, spots that appear and then disappear, dryness more than usual, and I swear I can see the early signs of a wrinkle right between my eyebrows. Everyone says I'm imagining it, but I see it there!!! and I know it's probably my punishment for not using sunblock or sunscreen as a young, naive child. <sigh> oops.gif

So I was wondering if anyone can suggest some kick ass creme, moisturizer or serum that is good for "aging" 30-something skin? (good lord that sounds so depressing!!)

When I first went through this "freak out" I went to the store and went bananas buying all kinds of creams, lotions, etc., but so far they don't seem to be working at least not enough for me to notice.

So help!!! This is driving me into depression...... frown.gif

your skin looks so great in your siggy pic. So unless that is a really old picture, you look much younger than 31.

I'm 26 I've had the dry spots & redness for a long time. I moisterize a lot more often now. I try to do it every night but I forget. I like really simple, mild stuff. I use ponds.

In harsh light I feel like I can see wrinkles & spots that just look damaged. Especially my forhead. But, everyone tells me I'm imagining it too. But, it sure beats pimples! I get the occasional one, but it's nothing like age 12-23.

I also try to be much better about sunscreen.

I'm with Morgan, your skin looks awesome in your siggy pic...but we know ourselves and how we used to look at our best, so I know what you're going through.

Since I was in junior high I've slathered cocoa butter on my face every night, for me it's great for eliminating dryness & making skin soft. Also virgin coconut oil is really good for skin and has a similar effect as cocoa butter. It helps with wrinkle prevention, I get mine here: Welcome to Tropical Traditions! (their baby silk overnight cream is amazing too, and all natural if that matters to you)

For the aging/spots/dull skin I get too, I've shopped around and it's been tough. I've bought high-end stuff that I want to work so bad because it looks pretty and smells good, but it's been nothing special.

The most effective for me so far is the Regenerist line by Oil of Olay. (and lots of water, my skin seriously suffers when I don't drink enough!)

Everyone's skin is different so none of this may work for you but it does for me, and it's much cheaper than the Clarins, Lancome, Clinique, Shisheido, etc. that I wasted $ trying.

Good luck but you look hot to me!

Thank you so much Morgan, that makes me feel better =) ~ the pic was taken a couple months ago. But I think I also started noticing changes in my skin since I started working overnights in October. I honestly don't think I'm getting enuff rest and this ass backwards schedule is killing me. hmmm.... and I'm def. not drinking enuff water.

Luckily I've managed to avoid breakouts except right before the period starts, but oh well its not unbearable, hehe. And I think you're right sunscreen is def. key. I just hate it when it stings my eyes!!!

Thanks for the compliments Starchild ~ you ladies make me feel so much better! I LOVE Palmer's cocoa butter, but have never used it on my face, I'm def. gonna try it ~ and that site sounds great. I will check it out ASAP =)

Wow, Oil of Olay huh? I think I will pick some of that up today~ my parents swear by it!! And ditto on the water - I need to seriously get back on track when it comes to keeping hydrated!

Thanks girls ~ these tips are GREAT cheer2.gif

I have dry skin. Like, creepy dry skin. I have the red blotchy, too, but I just assume that's related to the dryness.

My normal moisturizer is a neutrogena clean skin one with spf 15 (soooo important)! But when it's really bad, I use cetaphil, which I LOVE. But it's heavy and can leave you skin a bit shiny all day. Also, Cetaphil makes one with sunscreen, but I don't like it as well.

But, for me, the key to younger skin is to moisturize ALL THE TIME and sunscreen is your best friend.

Seriously, your skin looks gorgeous and I don't think you need anything except to remember to always wear SPF! But, if you're still interested, here's my skin care regime which has honestly helped my skin so much! I use a facial cleanser by Jan Marini - it's awesome for a bunch of different types of skins and helps to even out dryness or oilyness. It's also very gentle, yet contains glycolic acid (a wonder ingredient). After I got my first microdermabrasion, my beautician recommended putting on a glycolic acid lotion before washing my wash. I love it b/c it makes my face tingle, yet doesn't dry it out. After I wash my face, I use the Arbonne product line for anti-aging - NutrimenRE 6 Product system. It's on the expensive side, but I have been able to find the products for virtually 50% off on eBay!

I use Creme la Mer. It is quite pricey, but it has been a life saver for my face. I have super dry skin which flakes, gets red and peels. This cream has taken it all away. I love it! Before Creme la Mer I used Kiehls, I really liked that product too. But once I got this random skin condition, Creme la Mer cured me.

I use a sunscreen everyday on my face, and I use oil free. I also started using the Aveda tourmaline exfoliation scrub every morning. It has little scrubbing beads, but it's a creamy cleanser, and I love the way my skin feels. I also just purchased one of those Neutrogena at home dermabrasion scrubbers, and after using it just once, I love it.

I'm not yet in my 30s but I'm on a medication that basically puts your body into a chemically induced menopause. I've noticed major changes in my skin and hair!

I am currently using Biore products. I love Clinique but for the price difference this stuff works just as well. There is a warming scrub cleanser and a mild toner. I also use a night moisturizer and an oil-free day moisturizer that has an SPF. All of my founcation, powder, etc also has SPF.

Garnier makes a great under eye cream that is supposed to help with dark under-eye circles. I also use Retin-A cream around my eyes when I remember. My MOH works for a dermatologist so I get all kinds of fun samples!

The best thing that you can do for your skin is get a fragrance free moisturizer and a good sunscreen, make sure that you are wearing sunscreen every day. The incidental sun exposure that happens every day is much worse for your skin than laying in the sun for 5 days straight. One other tip is that if your skin is a flaky dry that is a sign that you need exfoliation, if you don't remove those dead dry skin cells on the surface, the flaky skin and oil can combine to clog your pores and that causes breakout. If your skin is tight dry that means that you are actually lacking hydration in the skin and your skin would benefit from additional moisture.
