How much is too much to ask your guests to pay?

Recommended Posts

I know I'm chiming in late on this, but in hindsight I would have planned my wedding for where ever and whenever I wanted and not worried as much about other people. In the end, some of the people that I planned around didn't even end up coming. Not that I wasn't totally happy with everything the way it turned out, but I was a lil annoyed that I changed things to accomodate other people and they didn't even show up.

i don't think you should plan your wedding around your guests...i mean it's YOUR day & you deserve the wedding of your dreams. Don't matter what you do you won't be able to please everyone so just make sure you're happy with your wedding! I went to RIU Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen on vacation 2 years ago & fell in love with the place, i knew then that one day I would love to get married there! Now I understand that a lot of people might find my choice extravagant for their budget & won't be able to attend but that's FINE with me...the people who matter the most will be there & hopefully will have a fun vacation there....the following year I went to RIU Mambo in Puerto Plata & was very dissapointed because you GET what you pay for (and silly me had very high expectations after my RIU Palace experience). So I say chose the resort you LOVE and don't settle just to please your guests.... another way I would look at it is: would you rather be the one disappointed in your own wedding day or would you rather have some guests be disappointed because it's out of their budget & they won't be able to attend?!

She is right on this one, we are paying $100 per day for day passes and $60 per person for half day passes. SO if you plan on hanging out with your guests and you are staying at an AI and they aren't - this may be a monkey wrench in your plans.

We've had people complain it's expensive, we just smile and say that we understand if people can't afford to come and that we would love for everyone to be there, but we really do understand.

There are a couple of reason we choose this resort, one being that we've stayed in the chain before and had an AMAZING time and since having a DW is basically planning a vacation for everyone who comes, we didn't want to risk it with a resort we've never been to.

Usually, when people complain about the price we tell them everyting that is in cluded and they are usually impressed...ALL food, Drinks (including liquor), taxes, gratuities and even some excursions if you stay 3 or more nights.

Anyway, choose a place you love, people will complain no matter what!

She's right - once people hear that the price is airfare, lodging, meals and drinks - including alcohol - they are usually fine and happy with the price.

We looked at the Westin in PV and it is about $200 per ROOM per night. It's hard to justify that each person would eat & drink $100 worth of food make it equal. But an AI just seems so fun and relaxing. UGHH!
It is easy to eat and drink $100 per day. We paid $50 for 2 hot dogs, a chicken sandwich, water and diet coke - BEFORE we checked into our hotel!

Water can be expensive at non-AI hotels, as can coffee. AI's just seem so much easier as there is usually something for everyone.

SO many choices! Good luck with your planning!

before we invited everyone, we asked the most important people to use to come, ie our parents, siblings and grandparents. they are all defo coming no matter what resort we are staying in. and that's all that matters to us. maybe make a list of who you really couldn't go the day without, and speak to them on a one-to-one bases about where your staying?

Good luck!!

My guests are paying $1689 taxes in, for 1 week in Cuba during the week of New Years Eve... which is higer than other times. For those people that love to trave it is great ... they get a holiday ... get to attend our wedding and celebrate New Years in paradise. The down side is some people that I would really want there are not able to come because of the price. I don't think shaving a 100 or 200 would have helped with them though.

I did look at the Rui's in the Mayan Riviera and there were a variety of hotels and prices .... high end to more affordable. If you can find a chain, you can stay at the higher end and guests can choose a more affordable hotel if they like. There were no day pass fees this way.
