What time should our wedding be?

Recommended Posts

I need some help deciding. We cannot decide between a wedding at 3:00p.m. or 5:00p.m. We are getting married at the Barcelo. Anyway, we both want the sun to start setting at the end of the ceremony- so that we can start taking pictures with the sun setting. Plus we want to get in about an hour or so of pictures afterwards with the sun. I wouldn't mind also the sun to be setting during the beginning of the dinner reception.

Which time should we pick? What time does the sun set in Mexico- Mayan Riviera? I'm from Saskatchewan Canada, so the sun takes about 4 hours to set here, it's very very flat. LoL.

Thanks.

you might want to check the weather channel's website i think they can give you sunset time all over the world. Also you might want to keep in mind the temperatures at those times. my fsil's wedding was at 6 pm in Riviera Maya but others were at 2pm and we would see these people all dressed up and feel so bad for them. They had to be dying from the heat, even 6 pm was hot. but that was in end of May.

Since your wedding is in Feb, I would DEF look up the sunset times because it's different for different months. It will set earlier than the summer months. I would think 5pm would still be ok, but I would look up the times just in case!

I'm going to say 3PM. We have a 2PM ceremony for much of the same reason.

Jean-Marcus actually has a thread about that from a few weeks ago. I guess he shot a wedding and the sun set on them fast, so he warned us about that. I'll see if I can find it....

Ok, I got married in early April, so it might not apply... but I would go with 3 PM. we had daylight savings happen the day we arrived, and thank goodness! It was then sunset around 6:30 but otherwise it would have been at 5:30 and it GETS DARK FAST! We could barely take three pictures before the sun set. This is becauase the sun doesn't set with the ocean, so the light quickly gets blocked by buildings and trees.

Ok, that was long... but I'd go with 3 pm.

good advice. since the sun sets on the west you get a really fast sunset in cancun/ riviera maya.

I'm trying to get this sunset stuff, but I think this is how it works. If the sunsets at 5:30 that's when it is past the horizon, but it isn't dark until later. I think there are several times to look at- sunset & dusk.

Maybe this will be my fact to check on today. I've been meaning to look into it.

We are getting married on the solstice, so the sun sets really late. Our wedding is at 4. Then we'll do an hour or so of pictures before dinner. Our sunset pics will probably be after dinner. I'm thinking 4:30 would have been a better time for our ceremony, but it's probably too late to change now. We'll have a tent for shade for our guests to sit under. I just don't want to be doing pics in the hot, intense sun.

the sun definitely doesn't take 4 hours to set in mexico! You'll have to stop taking pictures probably half an hour or 15 minutes before the official sunset time, seeing as the sunsets behind the buildings and trees, so it gets dark before sunset.

For my wedding last month the sunset time was 6:15pm, we had the ceremony at 3pm, so we had about 2 hours for photos afterwards (3:45-5:45) and that was great. An hour and a half would probably have been okay, but we would have been more rushed (don't get me wrong, we were still rushing a bit, but not crazy rushed).

Of course if you are going to see your husband before then you can get lots of pictures then. I didn't want to see mine before, so we only did pictures of ourselves alone and with bridal party and with our individual families beforehand.
