I chose the resort because I wanted something that wasn't just for couples or just for kids (i.e. Sandals or Beaches). My FI's aunt had been there a few times and recommended it. I was in contact with their WC and was very helpful and also found someone (via Tripadvisor) that had their wedding there. She shared her pictures with me and I loved it! The resort is undergoing a major overhaul now to update the rooms.

Here are a few pics the woman sent me:

Another option for those considering getting married in Jamaica is Tropical Weddings Jamaica. I'm getting married in Ocho Rios, via cruise ship, and they are planning everything. The prices are reasonable and they offer private locations, including beach, waterfalls, tropical gardens. Through speaking with my planner, I know there are people staying a resorts all over that use her because they want a more private location and flexibility.

The website is Tropical Weddings Jamaica -Ocho Rios ~Montego Bay~ Cruiseship Weddings in Private Locations. There are packages listed but I customized my own. Almarie (my planner), was wonderful in getting me the flowers I wanted and arranging the beach setup just as I wanted. The pictures she has on her site are only samples, as I went very different that what was there.

I think someone else here was also going to use their services.

I plan on using Almarie from Tropical weddings Jamaica!! She's been awesome so far. I can't officially book with her until December because my wedding is not until 2009. We are thinking of staying at the Riu Ocho Rios and having our ceremony and wedding dinner at The Ruins at the Falls Ruins Jamaica . I'm so excited!! I can't wait. I keep trying to convince my fiance to runaway with me and elope, lol.

I know you have already chosen your resort and congrats, one of the hardest decisions has been made...We chose Jamaica, Couples, Swept Away because of opposite reasons, we are going just the two of us and did not want a resort with children (love kids but wanted to be by ourselves with a romantic setting) We had first chosen Mexico and I had my heart set on a few places but due to the lengthy paperwork involved and blood tests and having to be on resort longer to qualify, we decided to choose Jamaica and although it was much pricier, it had everything we wanted for a wedding and honeymoon. Congrats on choosing Jamaica, I am sure you will not be disappointed..

We chose Jamaica because I've always wanted to go and Alec had been but not under the best circumstances (he was in the Coast Guard) and I've seen pictures and it just looks fantastic!!!

I originally had my heart set on the Grand Lido Negril. But as luck would have it our finances wouldn't cover that. So we're now going to Breezes Montego Bay. I'm excited but wish I had put more research into it before picking and commiting to a resort.

Oh well...I guess we'll just have to go to the Grand Lido for our anniversary!!! cheesy.gif

Hi all,

Darryl and I booked at Grand Lido, Negril (Feb.23, 200cool.gif and can't wait. It's a little pricey, I agree!!! But.... we decided that for this one and only time we'll splurge for our wedding. I'm happy to hear someone else considered it, I was thinking I was the only one!!! haha

We picked Jamaica for the same reasons as everyone else stated, easy requirements, beautiful beaches, nightlife etc. etc. I haven't been anywhere in over 12 years so I am really anxious.

We have a friends going along but only one other couple will be staying at our resort. Everyone else booked further down the beach b/c they didn't want AI. This is my small dilema...I don't know whether I should still do welcome bags or nothuh.gif I won't see everyone until the wedding day and I don't want to make people carry the bags around at the wedding. We are paying for day passes for everyone for the day of the wedding (and a private dinner if we end up with more than 10 guests) and we would like to pay for one excursion for everyone to get together later in the week. Any thoughts on the gift bags issuehuh.gif
