I think given enough time, people can plan to attend. Your wedding might be smaller than you had anticipated, but will still be lovely. As Autumn suggested, you could always have a celebration dinner in California when you return.

Welcome! I think a wedding in Italy would be amazing! If you haven't finalized your wedding date I would do that as soon as possible so you can send "save the date" cards to your friends and family so they have plenty of time to plan. Autumn has a great idea for having a reception in California for people who can't make the trip. Have fun planning!

Seriously it all depends on your expectations. If you're expecting all family and close friends to make it, you'll find that probably won't happen. The trip will be very expensive but if you give people enough time it's doable. Like the others have said, many of us chose a DW to make it smaller and only close family/friends. It's a special time that you're able to share with your loved ones. Be prepared for complaints and people who may not be able to make it.

 

BUT if you're able to have a reception after in the US, people who weren't able to attend the wedding would certainly attend a celebration.

It is! I have a friend who is in England and she may be getting married in Italy too - I think Serrento ... something like that. Im so excited! I CANT WAIT TO GO!!! Wouldnt your friends love to fly to Italy to see you get married? Its a great excuse, I think!
