Calling all Plus Sized Brides...

Recommended Posts

I am starting the search for my wedding dress. Depending on who you ask, I either need to get my dress tomorrow or within the next 30 days! I have two designers that I like (Maggie sottero and Demetrios) but thats it.

Where did you get your dress? Were you concerned that you werent able to try on the proper size? Do you recommend any other designers? Which sillouhettes work best?

help.....

Yes! I was totally concerned because I wasn't able to try a lot of dresses. I bought a lot of magazines about what silhouette dress would look best on my shape. See I'm short 5'2, I have DDDs and am short waisted with longer legs... I had to have lace, had to have it, I love Monique Lhullier and wanted something similar but for a fraction of the price. Here's my dress....in fact it just came in this week! I decided to use a sash the emphasize my waist...

I got my dress at a store that was about 2 hours away from my house called "group USA" because they had ALL the sizes in stock and when you find the dress you like you buy it off the rack - I returned closer to my wedding date for alterations. It was nice to be able to try on the sizes that you would actually wear. The prices are great too - I think the most expensive dress was like $700 but there were a lot for $300 or so. I know they have stores around the country but not a ton of them - you can see their store locations if you google it online - hope that helps!

I think the silhouette depends on your shape....I'm pear shaped, bigger on the bottom so A-lines or princess cuts generally look better on me......it emphasizes the waist and minimizes the bottom......maybe you could get suggestions for your shape at a local bridal salon?

Unfortunately the dress is the bridal salon's private label.... so there really isn't a designer label but I have seen dresses similar to it at other shops. It is definitely a flattering shape for most body types... The shop owner was a huge help for me and so were all the magazines I bought. This girl isn't an "off the rack" type of girl....lol!

I was able to try on most dresses. They just did not do them up but I could get a general idea what the dress looked like.
A-line looked much better on me (i am bigger throught he stomach and hips). Stay away from chiffon unless you like stuff that is clingy.
