Transporting glass vases

Recommended Posts

Has anyone checked in their glass vases? We have 6 large hurricane candle holders, and I'm wondering if our plan is really going to work by packing them and checking them onto the plane, or are we dreaming?

Thanks!

I would be REALLY careful if you check them. Tons of bubble wrap and check them in a brown box instead of a suitcase. Honestly though, there are no guarantees. My mom brought down 4 glass lilly bowls, packed super well, but in a suitcase. All but 1 broke sad.gif We were really surprised they didn't make it, but I guess with suitcases, they just throw things on top of them and toss them around. I think if you put them in a brown box with tons of bubble wrap, you might have a better chance of them surviving.

I had our sand ceremony vases in my carry-on handbag for the trip there. Each stuffed w/ tissue paper and double wrapped and taped w/ bubble wrap.

For the trip home, we checked them. More tissue paper in the top of the one w/ the sand and then plastic wrap and a rubber band around the top. The others were stuffed with tissue and all were double wrapped in bubble wrap and then in a box that also had bubble wrap inside (and at the top) of one of our suitcases. They are all in perfect condition, with the only difference being a little extra mixing of the sand ceremony sand, which is even more beautiful now than before.

Our candleholders, which were a smaller, thicker glass, I just wrapped individually in paper, placed all in a plastic bag and tucked between clothes.

We had nothing break on the trip to or from.

Good Luck!

I packed three hurricane vases there and back in my suitcase with no problems. I wrapped them in my clothes- each individually. I just took a couple of thicker items and rolled the vases in them. Then I packed my suitcase and when it go about half full I placed them in the middle, then packed the rest of my stuff on top. I made sure my suitcase was full to the brim too so there wasn't any room for the stuff to move around. Worked good for me.

I'd be more worried about weight than anything else! We brought so much stuff that there's no way we could bring a bunch of vases with us.

Best of luck!

Edit: nevermind.. I just re-read and saw they're hurricane glass so it should be thin and lightweight.. what will you do if they don't make it?

I don't know what we'll do if they don't make it. I guess if they don't make it, I can inquire to the Westin if we could rent them, or maybe we can find some at a store. We'll be there a week prior to take care of any issues/challenges. We also are having a weight issue (we're prepared to pay extra, but I don't know if there's a maximum weight?) We have favors (candles, fans, etc.), and I'm making candles for favors. But, I'm thinking we'll pack a box and give to best man for him to check in on his flight to even out the weight a bit.
