My sister Jill and my BM Jacqueline and myself made soap for the favors for my bridal shower. Jill and I had made soap previously to do some test runs for this and it was a pretty easy project. I think the hardest part was to stay calm. I am a nervous person, so was always scared something was going to go wrong. But we made it each time (at least 5 batches) with no issues. I have had a few inquiries on here as to what recipes we used, I am pretty sure that I posted it within a thread before, but figured it's worthy of it own thread. Feel free to post your recipes of you have made soap.

The website that we use the most for advice and recipes is Miller's Homemade Soap Page. The recipe that we have used each time is as follows:

This is pasted from All Vegetable Soaps and Recipes towards the bottom.

Soap Classic (Kathy Miller) This is my current favorite!

39 oz. olive oil (For harder soap substitute 2 oz. of cocoa butter for 2 oz. of the olive)

24 oz. coconut oil

18 oz. palm oil

26-30 oz. cold water (lower for essential oils, higher for troublesome fragrance oils)

12 oz. lye crystals

Temperature around 100 to110 degrees. This is the latest recipe I've been making. Some people think canola can be problematic for weeping in storage, so I'm using this classic combination of olive, coconut and palm. I've tweaked this from the original and cut back a little on the olive oil... I think it stores better.

We substituted soybean oil for the olive oil b/c we got a humongous jug of soybean from Costco. There are MANY recipes on this website though, so feel free to test'em out and post what you liked or didn't like!

We played around with additives as well. Our first batch was "mint/euclyptus" and it had a reddish swirl thru it. Jamy (starchild) received some of this from Christmas, and she said she liked it! Our second batch was "lavendar scented" and it also had lavendar buds in it. We had mixed reviews on the buds. Some people thought it was too rough, some people liked the exfoliating factor. Personally, I liked the roughness of it! For my shower, we made additional lavendar bars, but we left out the buds. I will take some pictures and post when I get home later tonight.
