Dental Stuff - Veneers / Implants / Crowns

i have 8 Porcelain Veneers and recently found out that a root canal a couple of years ago wasn't done properly and my tooth underneath one of my Veneers is bad. I am supposed to go in this coming Thursday for Dental Surgery to have that Veneer taken off, the tooth extracted, a titanium implant put into my gum, then temporary 'crowns' put on - and 3 months from now a porcelain crown.

has anyone had dental implants? i am freaking out - it seems so scary! smile43.gif

My sis had this done - she actually never got in her adult eye teeth (my mom doesn't have them either - the magic of genetics!). They put in titanium anchored fakes to keep her other teeth in line and make her look normal.

At any rate, she says it's not a big deal - hers were done several years ago. They basically use the titanium to anchor the new artificial tooth, but there's really not much more to it than that. She says it was actually easier than a root canal.

For her, the biggest issue has been that she needs to keep whitening her teeth because the fake teeth don't discolor and she's a huge coffee and red wine fan, so her natural teeth are slightly darker.

Ah dentistry, something I know more about than I care to! Implants are fairly common and take months from start to finish, but the process is really just waiting and there is minimal discomfort. I would agree with Becks that a root canal is probably worse.

My mom also just had a few implants done last year, she didn't have any problems at all. I deal with this stuff daily w/work so if I can help or check something out for you email me :)

Oh this is a topic I am very familiar with. My DH was hit in the front tooth with a baseball when he was little and the tooth finally died. He had it filed down and a metal post put in place with a temp tooth on it for several months. Then he had to go in and get the permanent veneer put on. What a nightmare. 2 weeks ago he had a molar tooth pulled and a bone graft done to prepare the area for a post and eventually a veneer.

So sorry you're having to deal with all of that stuff. Soooo not fun!!!
