So I'm not a mommy-to-be anymore, but thought I'd get the most sympathy here~ Austin is sleeping in his crib for the first time tonight! I am SOOO gonna miss my little guy being in his co-sleeper up against our bed! I decided to put him in his crib because he's getting too big for the co-sleeper, and I'm sure he'll be rolling over soon (I've actually hoped for him NOT to roll over yet, to keep him in the co-sleeper this long!).

We have the monitor all set up, attached to the TV (LOVE it! I can even see him breathing!). We also put a 2x4 under the head part of his mattress, which my mother-in-law insisted we do- she even brought it over (she did it with her kids- she's a nurse and said she doesn't know of any cases of SIDS in a car seat- where they are reclined- don't tell me if you know of any!). The ceiling fan is going and so is the little Homedics thing that shines animals on the ceiling. Anyway, wish me luck that I won't wake up on the floor next to his crib!

Ahhh Amy, I know Austin is going to do great tonight. I know how you feel completely though. I joked with Steve the other day that Hannah will be in our room until she's 3!

Here's how the night went: Austin fell asleep in Kevin's arms around 7:30, and I put him in bed at 8:00. He slept until 12:30 (which is usual for him), so I fed him and put him back to bed. He then woke up around 3:30 (which is earlier than usual), fed and changed him, put him back in the crib and he was not happy there! I think he was "too awake". Anyway, we have both had a cold for the last few days, and I was so tired I just put him in the co-sleeper at 4:00. He held my hand and fell asleep. SOOO, he started off in the crib- not TOO bad for the first night?? Glad it wasn't a school night- because I had a bad headache and felt awful this morning!

It sounds like he missed you last night, Amy. I think that is great for a first night, though. He will get use to the crib and start sleeping through the whole night. Keep it up, and let us know how he does this week.

Hi Girls. I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I'm doing good except for the fact that I am finally starting to feel seriously uncomfortable. My lower back started killing me this weekend. Hopefully the next couple of weeks goes by quickly!

 

Martha- I just wanted to tell you Congrats on hitting the 37 week mark! You are officially at term now! That is so exciting. Noah's going to be here so soon!

Amy, sounds like you guys had a good night! Slowly but surely Austin will be sleeping in his crib all night. Were you able to sleep much with him in it?

What monitor do you use? I didn't know there was one that could be viewed on the tv. I know they have the video ones.....are they compatible with the tv?

 

We have decided to go w/o the AngelCare Sensor Monitor because using a ceiling fan interfers with the monitor and we would rather have the fan on because of the new SIDS study.

 

We are also propping up the head of Noah's crib. My mom (who is also a nurse) is also making us do this.

 

So...I spent yesterday morning in the ER. I was there for 3 hours...Saturday night I started getting a horrible pain in my left breast. By the middle of the night, it was the most EXCRUTIATNG pain I have EVER had. I have had a few major surgeries and even a herniated disk and this pain was WAY worse. I only slept about an hour and a half that night and by morning time I had major chills. Jay wanted to take me to the ER but I was afraid to go because I didn't want the doctor to just tell me that I was engorged and send me on my way home. I took a shower and was brushing my teeth when I got real light-headed. I knew I was about to faint, so I held on to the sink and sure enough. I passed out for a few seconds (I am guessing) and hit my head on the wall. Jay came in and got me...eventually I felt okay and got dressed and off to the ER we went.

 

Turns out I have Mastitis..which is weird because usually this comes after you start breastfeeing.The ER doc says it's not common to get it before you breastfeed but it can happen. I was on IV in case I was dehydrated, I got antibiotics through IV also...they also gave me a Lortab. After abou 2 hours I started to feel so much better. They did some lab work and blood cultures, those should be in tomorrow, I hope.

 

The doctor gave me a prescription of Cephalexin (antibiotics) and Vicodin. I am not taking the Vicodin though since it's a Category C drug. I am still in pain, but feel like I might actually live. I have to wear a bra 24 hours a day, which is not pleasant but it makes me feel better. The minute I take it off, the pain is so bad. I even took a shower with one on earlier because yesterday I had to hold up my breast with one hand and try and wash my body and hair with the other...not easy to do! Sleeping with a bra on sucks, so I went to the store earlier to buy some more sports bras because my other ones are too small.

 

I do not wish Mastitis on anyone!

Wow Martha! I have never heard of Mastitis before breastfeeding either, but have heard that it is EXTREMELY painful! So sorry that happened to you! Hope you're starting to feel better now! Oh, if you're planning to BF, get used to the bra 24-7! Pretty much the only time mine comes off is to shower! As long as you have some comfortable ones, it's not that bad- and totally worth it!

I slept pretty good the first night, but last night, I kept waiting for him to wake up for his feeding (anywhere between 10 and 12), and HE DIDN'T WAKE UP UNTIL 4:30!!! I couldn't believe it! I was up doing school work since I was off today, finally got in bed around midnight, and didn't fall asleep until almost 2! He was stirring a little around 10, so I put his pacifier back in (another SIDS prevention measure!), and he was happy.

 

We have the Summer video monitor- and LOVE it! Sometimes there is interferrence with the cordless phone, which just causes a little static, but I don't think there's interferrence with the fan (which I've been leaving on). It's great to see him on the TV all night, except last night it was keeping Kevin up- he asked if I could dim it, and I couldn't figure out a way to. Usually he's able to sleep with the TV on, so hopefully he'll get used to it! The best thing about the monitor is that I can see him breathing on it (his stomach/chest going up and down)! This monitor was around $200 or so, but worth EVERY penny!

Amy, when I first got pregnant I slept with a sports bra on because I was a little sore... I am hoping they work well now. I have them in the dryer right now and am ready to put one on!

 

I am going to look into that monitor...we have some time though since Noah will (hopefully) be in our room in the basinette for the first 3 months.

It's good that he slept to so long! I bet he was starving when he woke up! I think the first time Noah sleeps a long time I will have a mini freak out though!
