My Hair Turned Orange!!!

Oh no! At least you have plenty of time to get it fixed before the wedding and to find a color that works. My hair is a dark blonde but I use box color when I either don't have time to go to the salon, or I can't stand the thought of spending all that money. It's never affected my color when I actually get it done at the salon though. Weird. Maybe it's because my hair isn't brown?

 

I've had a hair mishap once though- accidentally turned it orange too. I put my hair in pigtails and laughed that I looked like I belonged in Fraggle Rock. Maybe instead of being a on fire homeless person, you could do the Fraggle Rock look too?

sarah, they should fit you in IMMEDIATELY to fix this! when you are there thursday, you should speak to the owner. not only should they fix it for free, if you are willing to ever go there again, you should receive a discount on your next couple services. you should NOT go back to the same stylist, obviously they dont know what theyre doing!

Oh my....I would march right into that salon and demand she fix it NOW! I have had a few horrendous salon expereinces, but I always ask for my money back or have them fix it right away. You poor thing....I'm sure you are noticing it way more than anyone else....at least I hope....gosh that sucks.

I've done that too lol I'm really light blonde but decided it would be good to go bright red!! So I got it done lol it lasted 3 weeks then I was bright Ginger my dad said I looked like a match stick, cheeky git! lol

 

It took ages to grow out but if i'd gone back she probably could have fixed it but I didn't dare lol

 

Needless to say I've not done it since lmfao

 

She'll fix it and if she doesn't smack her all over lol

Oh no! I've had some hair mishaps, but never had the cheetah look. I need to get my hair lightened for the wedding and am noe especailly nervous. I always do salon color though, so hoplefully it won't be bad.

I have black hair so I dye it myself fromt the box color and its fine. I have a few friends that are stylists and they usually recommend it to get better coverage and longer lasting color. The problem with the salon all over color is that its usually a semi-permanent. They do this so that if you do want to change its easier. The box color contains more pigment etc... so it doesn't lift as easily, but that doesn't mean its not possible. There are usually 2 ways to lighten your hair if its been dyed from the box, stripping it or getting highlights. Whenever I get bored and want to change the color, I just start getting highlights. If the salon tells you that they can't because its too dark and that they have to strip it first, they're either lying (stripping is expensive = more money for them) or they are uneducated when it comes to hair and as such should not be doing your hair. Again, I dye mine black and I've gone in about 6 different times in the last 10 years to lighten it up again. Lightening through highlighs is the safest thing for your hair.

 

Unfortunately it sounds like your hairstylist stripped your hair. Stripping is just peroxide that is applied to your hair to strip away the previous color. Its really harsh and not very good for your hair. I had this done once and my hair felt so dry after, it was horrible. If you get highlights the impact is much less harsh on your hair, and the result is the same but it takes a bit more time. It might take 2-3 months to have the desired hair color as opposed to instant color with the stripping.

 

I had the same problem as you back in gr10 so I learned my lesson. Your hairdresser should have known that it could be risky to strip it, the problem with stripping is that you don't know what color combinations are underneath, and if they're too patchy you risk not being able to lighten it, or worse it can turn orange or funny colors. This is 100% her fault and you shouldn't let her get away with it. If she's a professional she (a)should have known better, (b)should not have let you walk out of the salon until it was 100% perfect, and ©she should be super appologetic to you now and do everything else for free. Sorry I'm getting a bit worked up but that's just so wrong! I would be b*tching her out like there's no tomorrow.

 

Now, for fixing the current state that its in. This is what I suggest (based on previous experience and I just called one of my best friends who's a stylist):

 

-get the stylist to give you some hydrating/moisture treatments (lots of them...like 3 at least!)

- dye your hair a dark brown (just a shade or two lighter than what you normally do) - the stripping damaged your hair, and adding darker color will condition it and make it all even

-after she dyes it one color, get a full head of highlights (on top of the color) They won't be as blonde as you want, but they will be lighter none the less

-use only a moisture rich shampoo for the next few weeks, and every week give it a good treatment: Bumble and Bumble's Creme de Coco shampoo and conditioner are really really great, also the Bumble and Bumble's dehydration theraphy treatments are amazing for once a week application: Bumble and bumble.

Sarah you have to be kidding me...my mom is a cosmeotologist and she could of just dye your hair and done the highlights at the same time then put in a conditioner in your hair afterwards to protect it. You were there for 3 hours!!!! What was she doing to you I hope you go back and get it fix and she cant charge you for fixing it. Sorry you had to go through this...if you lived in Chicago I would of had my mom take care of you

I feel your pain. I had the same thing basically happen to me back in university. I have dark brown almost black hair and wanted to go a lighter brown with reddish highlights. The hair dresser did a "lift" as they call it. Looked semi ok that day not quite what I was going for, but was willing to live with it. However, next day in the shower, I am washing my hair and looked up at a the soapy hand full I had, paused for a second and said holy **** I think I can can see through my hair. Yes, actually see through the strands of hair. I was mortified!

 

I ended up going to another hair dresser to get it fixed. I was terrified to go back to the first one figured my hair would fall out if I let her dye it again.

 

The second hair dresser knew me, so she put a permanent in it which was close to my original color and told me the other hairdresser should have known not to do that or should have at least warned me that it can be really risky.

 

When the first hair dresser found out what happened (small town) she reimbursed me my money and apologized profusely.

 

Go back to her and get her to fix yours.
