Also, we need to give our friends and family plenty of notice so that they can save up. I also thought of the tax returns and I think this way people will have two tax seasons to save up. I am sending magnets so hopefully people will just throw them on their fridge and not lose them.

Glenda that seems way too early, I would do the save the dates this March and then send out invites next March...

I say send your STDs out whenever you'd like but definitely set up your website ahead of time and put it on your STD. That way people can check flight, accomodations, all that stuff. i think sendng out a wedding invitation a year in advance is too far. People will lose them quite honestly. Send a magnet with the date and location (even if it's just the city) and your website. People can book their travel ahead of time if they'd like (though honestly a year out is really too early to book travel - it's not even possible to buy airline tickets that far in advance).

Then as you lock things in you can update your website. I was worried that people weren't going to look at it or use it but it's only been up since September and there's over 400 hits! We did not invite anywhere near 400 people - so I think people really are checking it for updated info.

But seriously whatever you decide will be fine. If you send it out to early you maye just have to hound people for responses (people don't like to commit SO far in advance) and if you send them out late you'll have to hound people for responses - either way it's whatever works for you. I think however that it's fine to send STDs out as early as you want but I wouldn't send REAL invitations out any earlier than 6 months... even that's a very long time honestly.

Do I include ALL the info such as TA's, flight/airport info, etc. or do I wait to see whos coming and then send that out via email?
I feel they need all that info to make the decision if they can/will come but I dont want to bombard them-
I would highly reccomend getting together even a basic wedding page on weddingchannel.com or something and provide that info along with your invites. The beauty of the website is you can add & update info as it becomes relevant, valid or whatever. And since you are planning to send out invites in March (still 7 months before your wedding)...people will still have tons of timed to make decisions about time off, flights, accomodations etc. I think if you put too much effort into sending printed material w/the invitations you might end up having to revise the info w/people later. 7 months is a relatively long time...lots can change. Try to keep it easy on you :)

I sent out my STD's in January just to let people know that our wedding is far away. This also gives them enough time to think about whether or not they want to come. I am sending my invitation sometime in April/May. I am not sure yet. As long as people know our website they should be okay. All the information is there.
