Argh- house cost!

Recommended Posts

I just got a call from the guy I had come out and give an estimate for our siding. To repair the chimney and a couple other places. Well he said that we only had a couple years left on the siding. We could extend the life of siding by painting. But by the time we fix the chimney and repaint we are half way to new siding (cost wise). Can you register for siding?!?!?!?!?!

I know this is one of those things that come with home ownership but it sucks!

I would get more than one estimate. FI had some masonry stone put on front of the house and checked craigslist. Found a younger guy that was just starting out on his own. Did all the work for half the price of everyone else and it looks so nice. FI asked for photos of his previous work to make sure he did good work and that he was legit. Definitely shop around.

SO happy Mat has working in construction (mainly roofs, soffit & fascia) cause even though we're still renters... I'm not looking forward to the costs associated with home repairs!!

(we actually got a few months of free rent because he repaired the roof! yay! lol)

Holy Crap!

Our chimney is not brick, its block, so thats probably why ours isn't as expensive, and ours isn't that tall because we have a single level home. If our chimney wasn't connected to our furnace I wouldn't even bother! Sometimes I really hate having a house!

yea I was told I needed a hot water heater new valves and a bunch of other stuff for my hot water pressure issue.

You can set up a registry for your house if you want to. i dont see anything wrong with that. They do it for honeymoons.

yeah mine is brick, and only a 1 level house, but it is from 1929, and someone put in a gas valve not to code, and well, yeah, i just don't use it. if i were going to stay in this house forever, maybe i'd invest, but it is only 2 bed 1 bath 1000 sqft - too small if i want a family. but if you use it, which being in the northeast i bet you would - it might be worth it. maybe guests will give you monetary gifts?
