As for the situation with the doctor I decided I am going to call his office tomorrow morning and tell them I am coming in to pick up my bloodwork results. I feel like they're mine and I have a right to them. I want to see what they say except for the obvious which is that I'm not pregnant right now. Then I am going to call my original OB/Gyn and make an appointment to go in and talk to him. The way I look at it is I need to know what happened for several reasons one being my own sanity. The other is if I was never actually pregnant how come a HPT's clearly said I was. Are false positives really that common? In which case when I try again I won't even use HPT's any more I will just wait for my period and see the Dr. if I don't get it because I cannot go through this again. Also if I was never pregnant what the hell happened on Friday because there was nothing about that that was normal. And of course on the other hand, if I was pregnant as I feel I was I would like to try to find out what happened for the sake of future pregnancies and if that's not possible I think my husband and I will be able to at least have a little peace of mind in knowing that we did at least conceive which might ease some of our worries about infertility. So I am taking off from work tomorrow in an effort to figure this out and at the very least be able to look at my blood test results for myself since my doctor did not really go over everything.

Thanks,
Mo

I think this is a perfect plan, and no false positives are not that common, especially all the tests you took.
You have to be your own advocate and I am so happy you are going to get a second opinion.

Mo, just wanted to give you a little more info on when I found out I was pregnant just before my MC. I took my HPT around 4weeks the day I got my faint positive I called my Dr and the next day I went in for bloodwork (beta test is whats it's called)

Most earlyl HPT's detect a pregnancy at around an hcg level of 15 even though their instructions show a 25. So when I went in for my bloodwork my hcg level was 21 (at 4 weeks) they told me they were a little concerned that this number was so low, but that I would retest that following Monday. Well Sunday night I started to spot, took another HPT and it came back not pregnant. So when I went for my bloodwork my HCG level was down to 6 (4 days after I got the 21)

Any HCG level of 5 or more is considered pregnant however it needs to double every 48 hours, so when my levels came back as 6, I had to go in again two days later and it was at 2 (common number for non pregnant women)

Ok I know that was all a little confusing, but when you start to bleed your hcg levels can drop off very quickly, and that could be the reason your DR said what he did. BUT IMO, he is a horrible dr to treat you that way. I would definitly stop seeing him, and go to someone else that will treat you better and "understand" what you are going through.

I know all that HCG talk may have been confusing, but just know that your body reacted the same way as mine did, and I know your not crazy (if that matters :-) Your DR. should have explained things better to you, for that I'm so very sorry, I know having a bad dr only makes the situation worse.

Mo I am so sorry for you. i lost one that way as well. I ended up having to have surgery D&C. What you are feeling is normal and in time you will come to realize that it was nothing that you did. and yes the dr is an ass. Take care of you and let your husband spoil you if he wants. It is his way of dealing with the situation.

He told us an internal exam and ultrasound wouldn't do me any good because I wasn't far enough along. He sent me for bloodwork and said that he would get back to me today and if he didn't have any answers he would run more tests so we would know what happened to this pregnancy for the sake of future pregnancies. He kind of tried to give us some hope by saying bleeding wasn't always a bad thing and I could still be pregnant. However, it was not just bleeding I was pretty much hemmorhaging(sp?) bright red blood and I passed clots so I knew there was no hope. I went for the tests and I got stuck like a pin cushion 4 times because they couldn't find my veins. The whole time the phlebotomist was talking to me about "my pregnancy" because all the tests ordered led her to believe I was pregnant. I let her talk because I didn't feel like explaining why I was there.

Anyway apparently I went through this for nothing because the doctor called me today and said you're not pregnant. I said well I kinda figured that after what happened yesterday. He said I don't know what you thought you saw on that test but maybe you were mistaken. That pissed me off and I proceeded to tell him that it was not one test. I took multiple tests purchased at different times from different stores. They were not the kind that you had to decipher between faint and dark lines. They were digital. They read in plain English "Pregnant". I showed them to my husband. I did not imagine them. He said maybe you just had very low levels of the pregnancy hormone. Now what does that mean? Doesn't any level of HcG mean you're pregnant? I had enough for mutltiple home preganancy tests to detect it. Plus I didn't get my period (which my period is like clockwork). He said sorry I don't know what to tell you. Keep in touch. And that was it!

WTF? Keep in touch? What happened to we will run tests and find out what happenedhuh.gif Now I feel like a crazy person. I called my husband to make sure I did indeed show him the pregnancy tests and they did indeed say pregnant. He said yes. I made my mother come in the bathroom with me and look at the bright red blood and clots that are still coming from me and said Mom am I crazy? Does this look normal to you? She said no. Why is he making me feel this way? Don't get me wrong, I would love to pretend that I'm just a big idiot that doesn't know how to read a pregnancy test and that this was a big mishap, but I can't because that's not what happened. But I guess I don't know what happened. How can you have multiple positive pregnancy tests, a missed (or late depending how you look at this bleeding) period, and extremely heavy bleeding with clots and have the doctor say keep in touch? Can someone please explain what happened?

Mo,
With my situation the doctor told me that most likely I had miscarried days before I started bleeding because my hcg levels were so low by the time I went to the doctor. I know I was pregnant, I "felt" it, 4 tests told me I was and I didn't get my period.
It was a week ago Friday I had SEVERE cramps at work- I mean they were the worst pains I had ever felt. There was no blood though (so being naive, I thought it was bad gas pains since I have had it before- just never this bad). Then Monday I started bleeding- so I knew then that is what was happening.
Later that day when the bleeding picked up, I miscarried (I saw it is the toliet- it wasn't developed, but I know that is what it was, it was a sac type thing) tmi? sorry.
Anyways, the doctor concluded that that is probably what I was experiencing on Friday because on Monday my levels were so low already.

Maybe this is what happened to you?

When I had my MC around 7 weeks I experienced what you are saying. Worst pain I have every experienced, I actually passed two huge clots and was rushed to the E-room because of the pain. I think when you have your MC at 4 weeks it's usually just the bleeding and some mild pain.
