New outside vendor policy for EDR-- insane!

Recommended Posts

it is one of the main reasons i am not booking the resort anymore for weddings. there are too many other resorts to have to deal with this.

it is a high end resort so you want high end pictures. someone having their wedding here is not going to settle for just ok pics.

That makes me so angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are going down to check out Azul next week. I'll make sure to ask and show my displeasure in their decision....not that it will matter. I thought the $500 fee sucked, but I could consider paying it. $1250, no way!

I believe this is their photographer Caribephoto - Professional Photographers Company for weddings and events on Riviera Maya - Mexico.</em></tt></strong>

Like many others here, I want more pictures than just of the ceremony and a few after. I want many hours of coverage.

thats what we did! It is a beautiful resort and we considered having our wedding here, but for a couple of reasons decided against it and I'm glad I did after hearing about all of the fee issues.

In working with clients that have resort weddings, we have seen a rise in the financial requirements for any outside vendors being used. For example, we had a client ask us to book a DJ at one of the most popular Riviera Maya resorts mentioned on this forum and when we contacted the resort, they emailed us an extensive list of additional charges that would need to be paid. These charges not only included a electricity surcharge (the outside vendor DJ had to pay for the electricity he used), the resort also wanted the client to pay for the resorts' DJ service to come and supervise the outside DJ "due to potential fire hazards." In short, some resorts have set requirements that make it incredibly difficult to bring in outside vendors since they do not receive a financial benefit if outside vendors come on their premises.

The best recommendation I can provide is to request from any resort you are considering to provide a written summary of outside vendor rules. This is the best way to avoid surprises later on in your planning.

Also, please know that there are many resorts in the Riviera Maya that see the benefits of being flexible in working with outside vendors and are very easy to work with. The resorts that lack flexibility generally do not hide it once you ask them for their rules.

Good luck everyone.

Hey guys- I got an interesting email from Cancun Studios-- who I'm using for my wedding at EDR in May. Thought I'd pass information along...

Shannon,

We have been receiving emails from many brides who are encountering the same problem with the new policies for outside photographers at El Dorado Royale. The hotel is taking advantage of their clients by using unethical business procedures to lure them into using on-site vendors. Our company has been researching a solution to this abuse however, it must be a cooperative intent from all those affected.

There is a department in the government called Profeco. This department works very much like the Better Business Bureau in the U.S. protecting the consumer.

You may want to try sending a complaint letter using the pre-requisites stated below. I will be passing this information onto many other brides so we can all work

together to fight this injustice.

Jill Murillo

Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Here is the website where the information was found)

ATTN- Mods, maybe these could be merged? They are all very similar content, that way the EDR girls won't have to go hunting for this info :)
