i hear you, it can be really dissapointing when the people you thought for sure would be there or really wanted to be can't for whatever reason ($$ / pregnancy / etc.)...for whatever it is worth, we went to a DW in D.R. last year - there were 30 people, they didn't get a dance floor, still had a 1st dance and we all danced all night right on the sand - it was amazing and we were so glad there wasn't a 'formal dance floor' - it was so unique and so appropriate to the environment

I was just going to suggest what Alyssa did. Do they have an option of holding it right on the beach/sand? and if they do are you interested in it at all?

I think that is what we are going to do. I personally loved the idea... seemed to fit our whole theme. I asked a few of my friends/fam for their opinion and if they would dance... and they all loved the idea! Where else could you do that?

But if you want a dance floor, I say go for it! You only get to do this once. As long as you can budget for it... you mind as well have what you want! : )

You know - I wrestle with this all of the time. It sounds like your family is spread out all over and getting them there on a vacation or together for any other reason is an ordeal in itself.

I suggest on definitely doing something at home before like a "Bon Voyage" type party so that they feel included.

Talk to your family members who can't go and let them know you still want them involved and even doing a little something at home will make you all feel better about everything.

Good luck!

My FI's brother can't go and FI is a bit bummed about that but not much we can do... I was also going to suggest doing your dancing on the beach instead.. bring your ipod and some speakers and still have your dances that you always wanted but save a bit of money at the same time?

I love the idea of having a pre-wedding bash. It looks like you are getting married right after christmas so won't family/friends be home around then anyways? It could just be as simple as a get-together at someones house or a restaurant - just so you feel better! Don't ever doubt your decision. It is crazy how many people try to make you feel bad for having a DW. Your parents would be forking over just as much money if you were having a wedding at home! And if everyone is spread out anyways it just makes more sense. You and your FI will have a beautiful and wonderful wedding - it will be small and romantic! I say go for the dance floor - it sounds like you really want it! I know everything will turn out just perfect - don't let it stress you out! We are all here for you!

You have to do whats right for you and your FI, you can't please everyone all of the time and no matter what happens someone will whinge. Go have your wedding of your dreams after all it is for YOU not everyone else. At least your parents will be there, mine wont and I'm stuck with a witch of a FMIL and her new hubby!! lol
