Barcelo Maya vs. Riu Riviera Maya?

Does anyone out there have any input? Any former or potential Barcelo and RIU brides....I need your weigh in PLEASE.

Well, I will be getting married at the RIU Palace Riviera Maya in July of this year, I know that might be too late to help you with your decision, but I will for sure keep you posted as the event gets closer and let you know what kind of experience I have...(I plan on it being completely wonderful!!!)

I do not have a lot of experience with these hotels, however something that is important for you to keep in mind is location. The Riu Riviera Maya is located in Playacar. This is the hotelzone of Playa del Carmen and very close to downtown. The Barcelo hotel is about 30 min south of Playa del Carmen. If you like to go into town once in a while, this is definitely something to take into consideration.

I'm in the same boat as you trying to figure out the pros and con's of the two. I think so far I have found out that Barcelo has an inter-resort bus to ship everyone around.

I am struggling with the same decision. I like Barcelo Palace more as a hotel - nicer and bigger rooms, good food reviewes, nice beach, but too far from Playa. I want my guests to be able to explore Playa without paying $20 for a cab each way. But Riu's reviews seem to be mixed. Icis, did you make your decision?

I still haven't decided. I heard that Barcelo doesn't really have a Plan B location for the ceremony if rain happens.

Who is interested in sharing a photographer and saving money?? 

 

Our wedding date is June 28th, 2014 at the Barcelo Maya Palace.  We are thinking of flying out a photographer from Los Angeles, Ca.
