My FI took it to the apple store on Monday, then, they sent it to an outside computer company. The guy said he's seen this a lot with my version of macbook. He said I could send it to another high-end company, but, it will cost at least $1700! I'm willing to try anything and even spend a little $$ just to get those pics back, but, that seems a little outrageous. I feel so helpless when it comes to computers! (oh, btw, i'm on my work computer right now :)
Do you have the white ibook? thats what crashed on me! Its so expensive to get it done, im sorrysad.gif i was sooooo frustrated when it happened to me. I try to back up as much as i can, but i still get lazy! even after all that..

We are considering buying a mac laptop for our youngest daughter (she graduates university in June but is going on to do some post graduate studies) but this thread makes me seriously reconsider that. We have another really good friend whose mac laptop hard drive failed last week.

yeah, i have the white macbook. i've heard it's common with that version (from 2006), not sure about the new ones though. Overall, I LOVE mac over pc and would still get another one if needed. Today, I'm trying to think positively---it's taught me a huge lesson---back up your stuff always!!!

Our computer just crashed last month and I was so nervous that all of our data was gone. I live in Mexico and my boyfriend is an engineer who knew someone that worked on comupters but I was just talking with him and he said that there is hope for you data. The guess there are a ton of companies that do hard drive data recovery. He says to go online and type in "hard crive data recovery" and then pick the right company. He says that he has seen the prices range between $250-$1000 and that they will most likely charge either by the hour or by how much data is recovered. The person here in Mexico took about 3 weeks to fix our computer but we got pretty much all of our stuff back. I believe once you pick the company you would like to do it with you will just need to figure out how to get your hard drive out of your computer and then send it to them. Good Luck and I really do hope that everything works out. Dont let it ruin your weekend though there is always something that can be done, for the most part anyways.
