RD Deposit/Refund

OK, here is the situation...I made a $200 deposit through our WC for our rehearsal dinner and I made it without knowing prices, etc, so I jumped the gun. Now that I have pricing and food options, I'm not at all happy with either. My WC says that there is no negotiation on the pricing or food. Do you think it's unreasonable to try to cancel and ask for my deposit back? I'm giving 2 months notice, so it's not like it's only a few weeks away and the WC says the place is really popular, so my thought is that they shouldn't have a problem filling our time slot.

I'm also annoyed that my WC's answer to a lot of my questions regarding pricing is that it's non negotiable. Negotiation is what business is all about...or so I thought. Is it just me??

Hey there.. what location are you working with for your RD? I have only dealt with a few locations that require a deposit up front for the event and it's usually a % of the total estimated food and beverage consumption, so the $200 sounds a bit off... Not saying that anything is wrong but could the $200 deposit be in fact a deposit for your WC?

Yeah, the WC is making all of the arrangements...good idea about calling the restaurant directly...I'll do that.

The contract does say the deposit is non refunable, so I may be screwed, but I thought if they can fill the spot, then I think it's fair to refund my deposit.

if the deposit is with your WC, she should put the money toward something else. if its already with the restaurant, you should still be able to utilize the balance rather than forfeit it.
