Dress fitting question

Recommended Posts

Is it really necessary to have 2 dress fittings? My dress is at a store in a different city than I live in (2 hour ferry ride and 1 hr drive). I really cant be bothered to go twice. blush2.gif

If i go in for a fitting 6 weeks before I leave, will this be OK? Anyone ever done this? Advice would be great!

I am doing 2 possibly 3. They told me that the first one is to get an idea of what has to be done, the second is to see how the alterations look on the dress and you and the third will be if they needed to make any changes from your second fitting.

I would say to do at least the two as you have no clue how the dress will look after the first set of alterations.

I'm having 2, the first one was where they pin everything in place, and make sure it looks right. The 2nd is where you try it on and make sure they did it right, and if so, then I bring my dress home that day. In my case they won't store the dress there so I do have to bring it back AGAIN to have it cleaned and steamed, and then pick it up AGAIN.

It's a lotta back and forth sad.gif

Thanks for the info so far.....

i am also worried cuz i am hoping to lose 10 or so pounds. Before wedding day. Might not be before dress fitting though. Argh!

What if i go 6 weeks before departure, then 2 weeks before in case they need to do anything else. Will this be ok?

Thanks!

I understand where you're coming from. I bought my dress in Toronto but I'm living at a 5hr plane ride away in Vancouver. Although we'll be moving there this fall, I'm planning on on losing some weight too, so I'm going to have my fittings all organized closer to the time that I leave. The store is able to schedule and do all the fittings and alterations in one week, so I'm planning on going in the fall just for the initial one just to see the dress and see how it looks, and then go back the month before the wedding to do the final fittings. You might want to check if you can pick up your dress and take it in to a different store closer to home for the alterations and steaming. Do some research to see if there is a store that can do the fittings and alterations as needed within a short amount of time so that you have the opportunity to lose the weight that you want.

My best friend is in that position (We are in Victoria, the dress is in Vancouver- wondering if you're in the same position?)

Anyhow, she is opting to have the alterations done here. We are actually taking a trip over this weekend to pick it up along with our BM dresses and then take it to a seamstress her mom knows here who does bridal. I think it will save on costs this way (and time).

OMG Pisces! i am in Nanaimo! Tooooo funny!smile120.gif

Yes i was thinking about bringing it here. However, i am going to Vancouver for a shower about 3 weeks before the wedding anyways, so i may get there in may, and then go back in June. Too bad your friend doesnt know a seamstress in Nanaimo!

I would say get alterations done closer to you.

I had to have two alteration appointments... BOTH WERE NEEDED! And then when I went back on Friday (3rd appointment), turns out they need to do one more thing!

The first one they adjusted it to my size.

The second one I made sure their adjustments fit (thankfully they did... but otherwise you do slight adjustments). But, my hem was crooked! So they had to fix that.

Then when I went on Friday I put it on and everything was perfect... except when it was bustled it stuck out. So they have to sew in a ribbon to hold it together.

I will pick it up next week.
