Uninvited Guest - the question once again

Recommended Posts

I feel your pain! We had to deal with a few self-invited guests to our Cruise Wedding, which so far is up to the maximum allowed guest count of 150! If your friend asked it is because he really wants your OK to invite this extra guest, and it is perfectly OK to say NO! You don't really need to give any detailed explanation, simply say that you have already met your maximum number of permitted guests. By the way, we were able to take control of the guest count down by setting a very strict RSVP date and sticking to it. Any one who has responded after the set date (which we had set for 3 months before the wedding) was simply told that we had already turned in our list to the Wedding Coordinator and could no longer accept any reservations.

I know how you feel... my FI and I found out that a lot of our guests were planning on bringing a random guest / date and weren't even planning on asking us (a good friend heard and let us know). My FI and I are paying for the wedding ourselves so this would've really been a huge stresser... We still haven't figured out what to say or rather how... On the one hand, they are paying a lot to fly out, but then again, it just bugs that people weren't going to even ask.

Yeah, I've flown to SO many weddings in my life and have NEVER assumed that it would be alright to invite a random date. IF I've had a relatively serious boyfriend, I'd ask if I could bring him (if I wasn't invited with him), but I would ASK. Not sure what all these people are thinking! We ended up with extra guests b/c people invited the people they were dating (that we didn't know about), which we decided was definitely fine even though being asked might be nice, but guests inviting "guests" that are not even someone they are dating seems odd to me.
