When I visited the states last December I was researching the fusion form of extentions.... I have NEVER had extensions. (Its full and grows super fast. I tend to cut it whenever I get tired of it. So now Im growing it.)
Anyways, I didnt get any weave because 1. Im scared and 2. It wouldnt last until August 3. I wouldnt have anyone in Japan to take it out for me

So I resorted to researching clip ins.... Okay sounds like a good idea right? Maybe. I figured, I can do a run through before Fiji and once I make it there put them in for the ceremony or just get them done before but I am like you guys.. What about the water issue? Really, whoever heard of going to Fiji and not snorkeling and if I do TTD then I will get it wet and wet hair is sexy! Anyways, I found this lady online - shes really not helpful but she has HUMAN CLIP INS ....The Best Easy Custom Celebrity Clip in Clip on Hair Extensions
Its expensive but she has hair for both caucasian and kinky texture. I sent her a photo and she sent me a link to order from (it was caucasion hair) ... then I ordered a sample, and she sent me a different sample (I think African American straight) ... I was pretty confused by then. My FI said the sample was was not my hair texture so I cut off a sample of my hair and sent it to her and she comes back today with a link to curly weave! AHHHH I dont want my hair curly. I planned on blowdrying it straight! Im thinking its a problem I have because I mentally dont want to have caucasian hair! lol Even though I am 1/2 Asian I consider myself Black and maybe I am in denial of having "good hair" -I just dont like that term or being considered to be in that category because like India said, "I am not my hair." smile120.gif Is it me?
OH yeah on top of that the lady at hair conspiracy.com said that it would be over 300 dollars to get it matched!!! OMG That is Freaking Ridiculous. Now I think she is trying to get over! What do you think?

My hair just wont grow in time to be the length I wanted it to be.
What should I do? Hey girls lets get another thread and post photos of possible hairstyles for us! Im not at home so when I get home I want to post a picture of how I want my hair and why I need extensions to make it happen.

Anyhow, thanks for letting me vent! I feel much better!
Hi Ladies,

I searched "African+American" in hopes of finding a thread on here that spoke to this very issue. I've getting married in Puerto Vallarta, so finding someone to do my hair is slightly easier for one reason and one reason only, I wear mean extensions! Can I just say that if you can find someone who knows what they're doing they can lay your hair and have your straight for months! I wear a sew in as I'm not a big fan of glue-ins or fusion. Glue-ins are too messy for my taste and fusions are horribly damaging to our hair. Though, I have to disagree with BillysBride. You can use glue in your hair if you know what you are doing and how to get it out. Also, lace fronts if done by a professional are nice but they can and do (as I've seen first hand) pull out your baby hair at your hair line, which is NOT sexy! Quick weaves are a great option for something like a wedding as they are temporary and if you have naturally curly hair you can wash it out the night of your wedding and be back to normal in no time. Getting my sewn-in's costs me about $400 plus an additional $100-300 depending on the quality of hair. It's a lot but it lasts me for 4 months going back twice for tightening (which is super cheap). If your braids are done nice and flat your scalp will breath, you can wash your hair and scalp properly and your hair will grow like a weed.

Additionally, really good hair can run anywhere from $100-$275 per 4 oz. About 4oz will do a half weave or thinner full head, 8oz a full head with maybe a little left over. Though most of this hair must be special ordered. Another idea is a great wig. Don't be scared. If you buy from someone who knows what they are doing it will look great. When I go the cheap route on my hair I usually by textured Remy which looks like relaxed hair and it runs about $80 bucks a pack, try Hairsisters.com. If I'm going for long lasting quality I buy from NatureGirl.net. Their hair is excellent and can be reused for years to come...and I mean years!

Needless to say I'm a loyal weave wearer and my natural hair is past my shoulders. I wear it out of convenience and also it keeps my hair healthy as I use some sort of a hot tool everyday. The best advice I can give is that if you are wanting a weave of any sort, commit to doing it right and finding the right people to do it. Do the leg work, seek out consultations and check out their portfolio, any great stylist will have one. Check out Black Hair Forum for more advise. I joined a while ago when I was first starting out and it was a wealth of knowledge for me. One, final note: choosing a quality of hair that matches your own in the first step in a great weave!

I will post pics of my hair with extensions soon!

I have been natural for about 3 years now. I am freaking out about what is going to happen with my hair. I don't straighten it (and in the humidity in JA in July is not where I want to try it for the first time). I usually just wear wash n gos, puffs, twists, or twist outs.

Did anyone see the Spa do any natural hair styles? I have a strapless dress and not sure what I want to do with my hair. I've had a big cut last summer and two since which limits my options. My hair length when natural is right beneath the ear and shoulder length when stretched.

I'm guessing I might be stuck with doing it myself into a puff. Does anyone have some pictures of natural hair styled for a wedding?

I was natural for sometime as well and it just so happens I was on vacation in JA with my girls when I had my natural. My hair did so great down there! Believe it or not I loved the humidity and my hair thrived in it. I think I loved it so much because I liked my hair big. While I was there I washed it, conditioned it well and twisted it. Woke up in the morning, took our my twists, styled them a bit with my fingers and was on my way. Other days I would put my product in and pull it up or back into a puff. Both worked well! Also, when I used to travel with my natural I would get the front braided really fine so it was out of my face and the back was left out. It was really cute. Your other option is to get braids so you have more versatility. Any ideas of the look your going for? I think that could help narrow it down.

I'm not really sure of the look Kara; its a casual wedding with no wedding party and only parents and siblings as the guests. But I think it needs to be up given the length and the strapless dress. The small braids or flat twists in the front might work with the back in a puff. The bigger issue is that I'm sure my hair will get wet in the 3 days I'm in Jamaica before the ceremony. That's why I was hoping the hair stylists there had experience with natural hair for the day of the ceremony.

What I'm thinking is that the puff will be the back up plan but maybe I'll put in flat twists the night before, take the twists out that morning and attempt an updo. I'll experiment over the next few weekends or so to figure out some options.

Sounds good Nisha98. The only other thing I was thinking of depending on how long your twists are you could get extensions add to give you the length and versatility to do and up do. Similar concept to braids except for they are double strand twists. I think this could be a good option as well. What do you think. Either way good luck and let me know how it turns out. I'm sure it will be wonderful! pinkie.gif
