We have everything...is there a polite way to ask for cash?

Perfect for the money birdcage. You could just train someone how to make them for your wedding, and when someone gives you a card with cash, you simply take the cash out and finish your decorations!

I think maybe its done different in the UK because i've never seen a money tree or anywhere where you can make donations to the honeymoon lol i have saidto be people i don't want anything but thanks anyway. That way it saves presents which we don't need i've lived in this house since I was 9! and lived with my partner for nearly 6 years lol

I have also warned my other half if his mother wants to give a present to be polite and say no thanks because girls that amount of tackiness and cheap crap I wouldn't be able to cope with lmao

I also think if people want to give you a gift and know that you have lived together for years they are likely just to give you cash because its easier.

i'm not asking many people to the wedding and am not having a party when I get back so I may escape all the rubbish lol

OK, here's the mother in me coming out. "I want to remind you girls it is VERY important to write your thank you notes, whether you receive money, gifts you have registered for, or something really hideous that no one could possibly know what it is. The people thought enough of you to wrap a gift and bring it to your wedding, so please acknowledge their gift". blush2.gif We now take you back to your regularly scheduled program.

I agree. I can't stand not getting a thank you note. If people say they were too busy I get so annoyed. It takes time to register but they made time for that.

I love a good thank you note. I got one recently for being a bridesmaid. That meant a lot to me. Then I got another later thanking me for the check. I really appreciate a personal, heartfelt thank you note.

That way you can wait until you move to spend them and use them for items for your new place (they don't have expiry dates on gift cards here, I'm not sure if they do where you're from).

I do like the security of giving a cheque though, I never considered that people would actually steal from a wedding (although it now makes sense why I didn't get a thank you card from a gift given at a wedding a few years ago...)

And I tried making the dove, I can't get its wings to flap, but I sure do know what to do with all my old magazines now!!
Yep, my friend had $150 stolen from her. Terrible, isn't it?

I also mailed a giftcard that got lost in the mail. So I stick to checks now. I pay all my bills online so it gives me a chance to use my cute, lighthouse checks.

That is too funny that you tried to make the dove.

Morgan, we had friends who were from Hawaii and she always made hundreds of white doves for the brides who were friends with her, even after she moved over to Missouri. She would ship them back to Hawaii. She said they bring good luck to the new couple.

So they received a box full of white doves? Sounds pretty. I loved getting a pile of blue cranes last week. You should tell her the BB&B tip then.

I've never been good at origami. I'm not patient enough to fold perfectly straight. My friend who made the cranes loves it though. He is making 1000 more.

I always send gift cards/cheques through registered mail so that you can track them if they do go awol.

But even then the post office can still lose things, they "lost" my FI's passport in the mail!!! Then a week later he got a final notice for pickup and they just happened to find the missing registered post letter.

Maybe I'll get my FSIL to help with origami, she likes doing that kind of stuff!

I completely agree! I find it so thoughtless when people don't write a thank you card... and it sticks w/ me forever when somebody doesn't write one for weddings and such.

What I REALLY hate is when I give someone a nice wedding gift and they don't bother to acknowledge it. THEN they send me an invitation to their baby shower a year or two later and expect another gift. That's when I remember they didn't really appreciate my first gift.
