We have everything...is there a polite way to ask for cash?

I would think that there has got to be a polite way to let everyone know that you basically have everything and would rather a monetary gift instead. I normally always give cash at weddings since I see it as a way for the bride and groom to recoup some of the money spent on the wedding.

But we've already gotten 2 Tiffany vases, a digital picture frame, a Waterford candle set, and a gift card. And my uncle (who is not coming to the wedding) sent us a very generous check. He gets it.

Yet I have friends who keep asking me where I'm registered and when I tell them I'm not because I don't need or want anything, they tell me they'll come up with something "creative." I would NEVER tell them that I would prefer cash, but come on people, we're in our mid-30's, we own our house and fully renovated it already, we do pretty well for ourselves and buy ourselves whatever we want. What can you possibly give us that we still need or wanthuh.gif Everyone knows we don't like clutter. Just give us cash or a gift card, seriously!!!

I hope that doesn't sound ungrateful.
that is exactly why I registered. So I don't end up with a bunch of vases & candles.

I always give cash too.

This is really interesting for me to read. In some cultures including my own, traditionally we don't register. We just invite people and usually there is a box for envelopes. I'm not marrying from same ethnic background so I will have to keep in mind if FI's family/friends will think its tacky that I don't register for the AHR or I may have to change that.

I also didn't really want to register for alot since we have pretty much everything, so I decided to register for a few things at BB&B and then the main regisrty was at TravelersJoy.com. My mom wasn't sure if people would really understand the honeymoon registry, but my shower was this past Sat and most people got me stuff from TravelersJoy.com. It was great b/c we will actually get the $$ but we are using it towards all of the stuff we asked for while on our honeymoon (dinners, massages, excersions..etc) Everyone thought it was a great idea and loved that they were able to give us stuff that we really wanted.

Here is our link in case anyone wants to see how we worded everything Honeymoon Registry for Kristin Mullin & Anthony Romeo | Traveler's Joy

Oh, and just so you know - we still got about 5 lenox picture frames, 4 sets of wine glasses, 2 sets of champagne glasses....and a whole bunch of other stuff we didn't ask for. I think people are always going to buy you what they "think" you'll like :)

Or not even what they think you'll like, but what they think that every newlywed couple needs in their household...!
