Is it possible to get married at Mayan ruins?

Hi everyone,

 

I know this sounds crazy...but my sister just did a beach wedding and I don't want to repeat that, and my fiancee and I both love Mexico so much, especially the culture. We have been there many times and have visited almost all of the Mayan ruins around the peninsula inc. Chichen-Itza, Coba, Uxmal, Palenque (in Chiapas).

 

I know you can get married in a national park in the US, but can you get married at one of the Mayan ruins sites? It is really hard getting info on this, and of course, we would not want to harm the environment of the zone in any way while we had the ceremony. But the more I think about this, the more it seems right up our alley! Any leads?

That sounds awesome! I am looking but cant find any info either. I am sure someone on here will find something. Maybe a WC in the area would know the answer for you.

As far as I know you are not allowed to do it.

I don't think you are allowed. HOWEVER, I know that Sol and Matt photograph at a ruins site in Playa Del Carmen which isn't really a national park. Therefore I'm sure you'd be able to have it there. It's more jungle ruins... but it's beautiful. It would remind me of Elizabeth Medina's photos of a wedding in a jungle ruin area. I think it was her at least!

I think you can get married at Xcaret Park. Its right next to the Occidental Resort which is pretty nice depending on your taste. Thats where we got engaged and we had a great time. You also get free entrance with your stay. I'm not sure where you would get married there though.

You're not even supposed to do professional photos at places like Tulum, etc.

 

Our photog said that it is against the law to use the ruins as a "stage" for something (his words).

I get it, it does seem a bit disrespectful if you think about what they mean.

It's not RM but in PV Las Caletas has a replica pyramid in the jungle that they do weddings at if you decide you really want to do the pyramid thing. Good luck

I don't know if you are interested in going elsewhere, but Belize has Mayan ruins. I have been there a lot and know people I could check with. You could really have a lot of awesome places there to do something different. I could think of some really cool places just off the top of my head. Feel free to contact me if you want to know more.
