Brides.com tip of the day

Does anyone else get the daily e-mail from brides.com? Seriously, they call these tips? huh02.gif

Here's today's tip:

Wedding day good luck charms abound Ever wonder how the tradition "Old, New, Borrowed, Blue" started? Something old represents tradition and a link back to your family. Something new symbolizes hope for your future as a married couple. Something borrowed from someone who is happily married allows their happiness to rub off on you. And something blue signifies fidelity, so your love will be forever true.

Here are a few more traditions passed down through the generations. Try these, or start your own!

  • Wear diamonds to shine happiness onto your marriage
  • Place a heads-up penny in your shoe for good fortune
  • Scatter flower petals down the aisle, they represent fertility
  • Save the topper of your cake to savor the memories of your wedding

and yesterday's

If you are having an outdoor wedding, set up a high-powered telescope and offer star charts so guests can stargaze after the sun goes down.

some of the tips are ok, but others are so out there, or crazy expensive! I mean I really don't need an e-mail to tell me to hire a juggler to walk through the crowd to givce my wedding and air of whimsy!

Now a logical person would un-subscribe but I do get a kick out of some of them and I do enjoy bitching about how unrealistic some ideas are.

Oh, and if anyone is bring a juggler and/or a mime with them, I'm sorry if I have offended you. I'm sure your wedding will be quite whimsical!

Here's today's tip!

"Want your dress to make a big statement? Extravagant details such as metallic flounces or sublime balloon sleeves will dazzle your party circuit."

...AND take you straight back to 1985! I'm surprised they didn't mention hiring a Flock of Seagulls tribute band! I'm guessing that probably isn't the desired statement...

OMG you've got to be kidding me :)
Doug has one sister who is stuck in a time warp to the 80's. No matter what we do to try and help, she just loves her high-waisted jeans, big blonde permed hair, and blue eyeshadow. Funny thing is Doug's older bro who now goes completely bald USED to have hair just like hers back then, when he was in a rock band!
When I was dress shopping I showed some pics of the dresses I liked to her and wouldn't you know, she kept saying things like, "That one is pretty but it needs poofy shoulders" or "Lace sleeves would be pretty." I had to bite my lip and couldn't wait to report back to Doug! :)

And here's today's!

"From Brides

As an alternative to the traditional bridal bouquet, try carrying a wreath, a candle, a lantern or even a prayer book."

Um, I don't know about carrying a lantern...THose options above sound more like a first communion or a virgin sacrifice!

The seriously have got to stop giving wardrobe advice!

"Flapper-inspired dresses with glittery retro-glam looks are all the rage and will still shine in modern times."

I love theme parties, just not for the wedding. You could end up with pics like these:

The elastic sequined headband is a nice touch...
