ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

I had my Ceremony at The Royal, and did my Reception at Wickys. After our Ceremony, all of our guests went to one of the bars and ordered drinks for "cocktail hour" (why pay for a cocktail hour, when their drinks are free at the bar?) We had put together a book that kind of told our story, and we honored every single guest with their own page. We had pictures of us with all of our guests, and we wrote them each a thank you in the book. So like on my maid of honors page there were pictures of us from high school. This acted as our guest book, and that is what our guests did while we did our pictures. After that, I had hired a Mariachi band to walk with us in a Processional from The Royal to Wickys (I found them playing on the street the night before and paid them $50, I would do that again and again. They were AMAZING)  I didn't like the options they were giving me for a reception at the Royal, so I decided to think outside the box. I'm not sure exactly how many people they can fit in the private room, you would have to ask them. They can do many different options though, including setting up tables on the beach if that is what you want. They are extremely accomodating, and are happy to help you do whatever you want. They will give suggestions and look into any question you ask. The morning of the wedding my maid of honor and I walked all our decorations down to Wickys and gave instructions to the head waiter on how to set everything up, and they did it perfectly.
Wickys sound like a great alternative. I think I will reach out to them. I read somewhere it was only 4 blocks away. Did people complain about walking? I woukd hav e to find transportation for our grandparents.

Yes, Wickys is 4 blocks away. We didn't have anyone complain about it, not even my grandparents. We hired the mariachi band to walk with us which made it so much fun. If your grandparents need transportation, there are always tons of cabs parked outside the resort so you could just grab one of them. I'm sure it wouldn't cost much since it is only 4 blocks. You can actually walk to Wickys on the beach, so quite a few of our guests walked back to the resort that way. It made for a nice moonlit walk on the beach :)

Thanks for the reassurance.  I was beginning to dread wedding planning because I wasn't finding what I envision and getting the most BANG for our BUCK.  Wickys seems like the best alternative to having the reception at the resort.  I have their current pricing it they are reasonable.

We didn't do a wedding rehearsal, but we told everyone to meet at the Tequila Bar at a certain time on their first night there (some of us had been there since Monday and most came in on Thursday). It ended up working out great for us because everyone did their own thing for dinner and then met there.

Nope, we didn't really go over anything. When we met with our WC, she had told us specific times for things... like, that should meet with the guys (the groom, best man, and officiate) at a certain time and take them over to the gazebo. Then she said she would meet me in my room at a certain time to take me over to the gazebo with my dad and maid of honor. Honestly, we didn't need much more direction than that. When we got to the gazebo, she would tell us when to start walking, and that was really it. LOL.

@deniden: I just read your review of the resort!  It was detailed and I loved the tips.  Do you still have a copy of the spreadsheet you talked about in your review?  The one where you compared all the packages together including additional items such as the DJ. If so...and if you don't mind, could you upload it here or email it to me at [email protected]?

Thanks

I completely agree with this, there isn't much direction needed. The WC tells you what times everyone needs to be in their places, and she lines you up and tells you when to go! We didn't have a rehearsal, and we didn't really need one. My WC was really good at hiding me from everyones view until I walked down the aisle, which I really appreciated.
