ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Kelly - that is so exciting! I can't believe you finally made it!!! :) Congrats! Can't wait to hear all about it and see pics!

 

Ladies - I need your help! For some strange reason, I just had the urge to switch my reception site from the central garden to the beach (I saw a pretty picture). I was initially encouraged to go with the central garden because it would be easier to walk on, less messy (less wind/sand)...but I'm thinking what's the point of travelling to Mexico to have a grass wedding!? 

 

What are some of your pros and cons for beach vs. central garden and what has your experience been (for past brides). 

 

For the beach wedding - do people take off their shoes? Does the sand get in your food?

I was originally supposed to have my reception on the beach - mother nature didn't agree so we ended up in a ballroom, which to me, was even better. Regardless, I asked similar questions before and no one complained about sand in the food. Although, I must caution you that it gets very windy down on the beach, especially at night. I had luminarias for decoration and the WC told me they'd have a hard time with them because of the wind.

 

If we are thinking of the same place (the only other place I can think of is the garden by the gazebo) - the central garden seems very pretty, but it doesn't seem like you'd have much privacy at all. In order to get to the lobby, most people walk on those walkways. Plus, the tequila bar is right there.

there was a central beach reception the other night that was FREAKING. ROCKIN. IT! the music from the beach carried the entire way through the resort, and lots of people drifted down there to see what was going on. it was awesome - like being at a club. : ) I'd totally recommend the beach. the wind is a factor with everything in the evening here, but it feels great at night (I've even gotten goosebumps once or twice).

 

also, I asked who their DJ was, and they said DJ Mania. he was fab. DO THE BEACH! the garden is pretty, but you can kill it on the beach. ; )

Sweet God, this final week of work is pure TORTURE!!! Not to mention the fact that Mondays are our busiest day of the week, so I don't even have a lot of work to distract me for the rest of the days. I leave one week from today, and I can practically TASTE the pomegranate tequila! I finished everything wedding related last weekend to leave this next weekend for packing and reduce my overall stress, and I'm starting to think I should have left SOMETHING to work on this week!

 

Oh wait... I should probably get started on my vows, huh? I can't believe it's almost here! woot.gif

So exciting!:) I'm sure its a lot of work, it seems like most of the planning is done the week before. Good luck on your vows and I cant wait to hear about your wedding.

I mean, I get it, and I would like to have a dinner, too, but I think it would be way better for everyone to get to order what they want off the menu and not have to have her spend the $15 per person. I have a feeling we won't resolve this one until the 11th hour undecided.gif

I agree, if you don't want her to do the dinner that way then she shouldnt, its your day and she sounds a little high maintenance. I hope you figured it out.

 

This brought up a questions for me, I am doing the buffet on our wedding night and my MIL was going to do the welcome $15pp. Is it the same menu? I was under the impression you could choose, but if not then thatâ€s not good.

 

Also, doesnâ€t the hotel supply candles if you request them? I want TONS of candles and was under the impressions they will provide them.

We actually found a restaurant off property to have the dinner at, La Cueva del Chango.

 

I don't think it would be the same food as the buffet, but for our wedding, we had a choice between the beef or the red snapper. The welcome dinner was the same menu as the Classic Wedding menu. The other thing to keep in mind is that you can only do a max of 35 people for a welcome dinner, since it's the same rules as a semi-private reception. If I had to do it again, I would probably try to talk her into the private cocktail reception instead. She's spending a fortune on this dinner.

 

I have no idea if they will provide candles, but I can't imagine they would just give you a ton of candles for free. We had bought a 100 pack of plain white tealights from Ikea a million years ago, and we've barely used any of them. I'm just going to bring those down with us.
