you know, one of my friends had a 65-person wedding at the GP Real with ZERO centerpieces. I almost couldn't believe it because I doubt money would have been an issue. I'd say the rules are off. no centerpieces are fine. maybe the Royal can offer the white marble candleholders as deniden suggests.

I'm using Marvin for the flowers.

I think I am (provided there's enough time). I'd like to reinforce the Royal's dress code (they're serious about slacks and covered footwear for guys), and I was going to put a list of drinks you can order in Mexico on there. I plan to laminate them so people can have them poolside.

Have any of you had resort issues with the wedding day timeline?

Here is what I want but the off-site coordinator is telling me that I will have to pay an additional $400 to have a 30 minute break within the timeline:

4:30-5:30 (1hr) gazebo ceremony (Royal is telling me I only get 30 minutes unless I am Catholic!!)

5:30-6:30 appetizers cocktails

6:30-7pm guest break to go back to room, change, freshen up, etc (Royal wants $400 for this break)

7pm-10pm private ballroom reception

10pm-11pm paying for extra hour of reception

I paid a ton for the Luxury wedding and am just so disappointed that they are trying to squeeze so much out of me when they know that I am committed to the resort now...my wedding is Dec 4, 2011. Plus, they are giving me a hard time about a 1 hour ceremony saying I only get that long if I'm Catholic.

I just paid my full fee yesterday so now I can work with the on-site coordinator. Do you ladies find the on-site coordinator more flexible?

I hope you are all doing better than me with the planning!

The Royal, Playa del Carmen

Hi Roza and Congrats!

I am getting married July 7, 2012 and am trying to catch up with all the helpful messages before posting tons of questions.  We have the Ultimate Luxury Package and paying an additional $350 x 2 for two outside vendors. My FI would rather pay these absurd fees to avoid any problems with the resort, but I keep trying to find ways for cutting our total cost. I understand that the resort makes tons of $$$$ from destination weddings and feel like they are taking advantage of the situation. For example, I have my eye on an outside photographer, want to book them a room for one  night, put them on our wedding guest list (I've read that other brides have done this in the past) and not pay the $350 vendor fee. However, the WC is telling me that if I bring my own photographer with a two night minimum stay (not one night), I still pay a discounted vendor fee of $280! That's not including the fee to add them as a wedding guest!! Anyway, I see you mentioned that the on-site coordinator seems more flexible to work with once you paid the full fee. Did you mean the full fee of your Lux package? Or full fee of your package plus all the other extras, like florist, DJ, photographer, etc? If it's just the package, then I am willing to pay it in full now to deal only with the onsite coordinator.

Thank you in advance for any helpful information!

Rocio
