ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Hi Labebeta,

Just wanted to let you know that a good place to look for a travel agent is right here on the BDW forum. We are owned by a travel agency, Wright Travel and our agents of course specialize in Destination Weddings. I myself specialize in Cancun and Riviera Maya area. I would be happy to answer any of your travel agent questions... The Royal is one of my favorites! You can send me a PM if you would like, or contact me directly at [email protected].

Best regards,

TA Wendy

Hi, Ladies!

It is pretty slow moving right now, but I am trying to enjoy the 8 months I have left until our wedding! We just booked our photographer yesterday, and we decided to fly our engagement shoot photographer down with us. I feel like a Kardashian saying that woot.gifAfter comparing prices, it wasn't that much more to bring him with us, especially since we're saving the vendor fee. Plus, he wants to expand his portfolio, so he'll end up photographing our welcome dinner, wedding, and TTD for the same price he charges for 6 hours of photography here!

I'm also getting invitations to match my photobook STDs, and I'm hoping to send those out in November with an RSVP date of February 1st.

I'm going to pick up my dress, too! I can't wait to see it! I also got a great deal on a boudoir photoshoot, so I'm doing that November 20th (the coupon expires at the end of November).

I hope everyone's planning is going well!

I need some help and any advice you can give me..I am not well versed in weddings at all. Thankfully my mother's best friend is a wedding consultant or I would be in big trouble.

I have a few questions for anyone that has gotten married at the royal previously..

1. Is there a place where you can order your own cut flowers ? Like I said my mom's best friend is a wedding consultant/florist and would is giving me a present by doing some decor and the flowers if possible. I am looking to find a place that I can order fresh flowers in Playa del carmen for pick.

2. Photographers/Vidoegrapher..any suggestions..they have the resort packages but not sure I am sold on their pictures.

3. Does the DJ Doremixx bring the dancefloor? because the resort shows a dance floor rental on the upgrade? Everything I have read explains he does, but not sure.

Any other info you have please feel free to post!!

Thanks!

yikes! Reading these posts are making me fear i've fallen behind. My guests have started booking at both the Royal and Gran Porto; however, I don't plan to send invitations until December 1st for my April 21, 2012 wedding. Is that considered late for a destination wedding?

We've made our major selections but we're not sure we want to host a welcome cocktail hour at the Royal. Will our Gran Porto guest be able to attend? Any other fun ideas for a welcome reception/dinner that aren't too expensive. We expect 60+ to attend, so, our costs are climbing quickly.

Last question (for now...hehe) has anyone given embroidered sombreros as a favor? I'm looking to purchase sombreros in bulk for a reasonable price.

Thanks! :)

Hello all future Mrs!!

It's been a while since I've been on - I hope everyone is doing well and having fun planning their weddings.

OrrO - I got married at The Royal PDC, June of this year. As long as they haven't changed their rules again, here is what I did. In order to have my guests join us from Gran Porto, I paid for the event. We had our rehearsal dinner at Asiana's but it was not Asiana's food ( you have to chose from the banquet menu). I had the Welcome Dinner at Gran Porto and let's just say the food quality was not up to par. Sadly there is a huge difference in quality between Gran Porto and Royal. I was really embarrassed that our friends/family with kids had this as their only option. Children are not allowed at the Royal at all, except on the Wedding Day.

Definitely keep this in mind if you're planning on pre-wedding events at The Royal.

Let me know if you have any questions. Happy planning! =)

I do not think it is too late at all.  Our wedding is in March and we sent out a letter from the travel agent in July, a save the date two weeks ago and our formal invites are going out in early December.  I think the way we did it has been good because we got the early birds with the letters then the travel agent got another wave of people booking when the save the dates went out.  I think we will catch the procrastinators with the formal invites.  Don't worry everything will be perfect, everyone does things a little differently :)

1) You can contact Marvin and I am sure he can quote you on fresh flowers prices.

2) Don't do it! During my stay, my hubby saw the resort's resto waiter with the videocam...learning how to use it..then went to film a wedding!  I guess the videographer called in sick..and they had to find a quick replacement.  Plus, their pics look a bit tacky and posy.

3) Yes, they have a basic wood/plywood dance floor for the beach by default and the fancy lite up floor if u are willing to pay more.

The Royal's guests can goto eat/drink/hang out at the Gran Porto, but they rarely do, because the Gran Porto looks like the 3rd world compared to the Royal and the Gran Porto guests can't goto the Royal..unless they buy a pass.  During my stay, our Gran Porto guests could sneak in...until the security caught them..and remember their face!  The upgrade from Gran Porto to Royal was $60/per room a nite...so for $30 per person per day (assumed 2 persons/ room), it was WORTH it and way cheaper than the day pass!!!Therefore, welcome cocktail is doable at the Gran Porto, but their liquors/ boozes are not as fancy as the Royal's.  As for welcome dinner...maybe it will be cheaper and more fun to goto somewhere else than eating at the resort, there are plenty of nice restos on 5th avenue and surrounding.

Hi ladies!

For those who did a private reception, how did you handle letting the wait staff know which entree each guest is getting?

I wanted to print up rack cards from Vistaprint and then just perforate the bottom with the guest's meal selection, but I'm wondering how I'd do that logistics-wise? Put the menu card with the guest's place card?

Thanks!

Denielle

I think people have done either placecards in two colors or added a sticker to select placecards to indicate who had which entree.
