Wow this is crazy!  I was told before that if they were a guest of a Real resort there would be no vendor fee.

I truly do not understand the outside vendor fee.  It's just extra money in the Royal's pocket for no reason.  Like you said we and our guests are giving the hotel thousands of dollars.  I'm doing my best to get around this and have not mentioned the names of my vendors to WC.  It seems the onsite coordinators are more lenient with the rules and fees so I'm hoping once I get down there I won't be charged.

Another idea I had was just buying them day passes, it may work out cheaper. Did any past brides get away with this?

ChicagoBride - That is a great idea! Anyone - definitely let us know if that works. That is so weird about the vendor/photography issue. I told my WC about mine a long time ago and she was fine with it. So strange that they are changing everything.

You ladies have empowered me to ask for the tres leches wedding cake! Our reception is inside so hopefully we can get it! msnwink.gif

I have a question ladies.  I am assuming there is a rehearsal dinner correct?  Some of my guests are staying at the Gran Porto,  some at the Real and others at the Royal.  My WC is telling me that the people who are going to the rehearsal cant be in the Royal which is where the wedding will take place more then 30 minutes of the dinner.  otherwise they pay a fee to get in.  What is the protocol on this and why are we getting charged on an all inclusive hotel resort where both are own from the same resort.  Any suggestions?  I just emailed the WC to see if we can have the rehearsal dinner at the Gran Porto where we are all staying.  No response yet.

They don't do a rehearsal, you just meet with your WC after you get there to go over things etc.  If you wanted to hold your own rehearsal then you would need to do a semi private or private dinner for your guests.  If you are having a semi private or private event at The Royal then your guests should not be charged for day passes.  You just pay their per person price for the meal.

If your wedding is at The Royal then guests not staying there will be allowed on property 30 min before ceremony.

If you have less than 15 guests, this isn't an issue, but more will require doing the semi-private reception that ChicagoBride mentions above. they may hold you to the event being at the gran porto/real, since royal guests can go to the gran porto/real but not the other way around (except during the cermony).

So could I have a hearsal dinner at the gran porto where everyone is staying?  Like a restaurant thats in the resort and make a resorvation to avoid any extra charges?  A previous bride had a welcome party is that included with the wedding package?  That is weird to me they dont have a rehearsal.  How do you know what you are doing?  Did anyone have bridemaids i have 6 of them.  I need to let them know what to do where to stand.  Do we just pretend we are at the resort and practice somewhere else?

The only way to avoid additional charges for a dinner is if you have fewer than 15 people dining - then it's no problem for a restaurant to move the tables together for you. As far as I'm aware, there is no welcome party, but many brides have either had people meet in a location, or they've hosted a cocktail hour (at the per person rate from the package rate sheets).

They really don't do rehearsals, and I think it's largely up to you where you stand (e.g. under the gazebo, outside the gazebo, on the steps of the gazebo, etc), but I imagine your coordinator will direct on the day of. If you (or your bridesmaids, groomsmen, etc.) aren't staying at the Royal, I don't think they'll allow you to enter until 30 minutes prior to ceremony time.

Hi Ladies,

I just spent the last hour on the phone getting my 45 day checklist ready!  It is so close.  I'm actually ahead of the game, the wedding is more like 60 days away.

FYI...I asked for the Tres Leches cake and it was NO PROBLEM!  I was so excited :)

As for welcome dinner, we decided to just tell people to meet up at a bar on the resort.  Everyone is staying at the Royal, so I'm hoping it won't be a problem.  We also made it optional, b/c some people are only there for 3 days or so and I don't want to schedule their whole time!  So far, our final numbers are 26 guests, so 28 total with us.  Not so bad...

That is awesome!

Now, did you have to choose just one option for each course for your menu?

and are you having any outside vendors?

Hey guys!

I just asked my WC about this whole welcome dinner thing and she told me the same thing - I would get charged because I have over 30 guests.  Again, this makes no sense because everyone is staying at the Royal and it's all inclusive.  I'm also thinking of doing what speedy130 is doing and meeting at the bar at a specific time.   I really don't know how else to go around the fee.

Please keep us posted if you were able to just buy a day pass for your photographer.  Thanks!

I think the fee is more about logistics -- the restaurants simply aren't designed to accomodate a group of 30 all entering, sitting and ordering at once (the latter I'm assuming is why they use a set menu for all private events). maybe you could instead do welcome cocktails together at the lobby (I think someone else suggested this)? or I was thinking of telling everyone to meet in the lobby at a certain time each day if they wanted to go to dinner as a group. you could simply split up (based on where people want to eat that night) if more than 15 people show up.
