I am less than 5 months away now, and starting to panic a bit and everything I need to do.  I am debating on the OOT bags.  I really want to give the guests something, but I am not so sure how useful they would find it.  What do you all think?  For recent brides with OOT bags, did the guests like them?  Are you glad you spent that money?  Any suggestions outside of the normal stuff that they really enjoyed?  Some people are only coming for a 3 or 4 day weekend, so I feel like some of the stuff won't be useful to them.  Maybe it would be better to go with another type of gift...

We chose not to do OOT bags.  We wanted to and think its a really nice idea, but its not in the budget.  We are doing thank you gifts for the bridal party and an AHR.

anyways, its definitely way too late to make any changes to our wedding....but just wondering if others have experienced the doubts beforehand....

We only second guessed our self before we booked the Royal.  We looked at So many other resorts, the Riu's, other Royals, Palaces, Dorado, Iberostar.  But no one could beat the location.  With its sister resort right next door and 5th ave across the street! We did look at a place like tensing pen, it was in Jamaica.  You booked the whole place and it was just you and your guests.  Which at first we thought was great! But then thinking of it, their are going to be times when you just want to be alone and get away from everyone and at a place like that you can't.

I have not posted on here for quite some time because I was going through some major issues with my family and the wedding. Basically, my Dad and a few others expressed deep concerns with going to Mexico. I understand this is silly, but they were really pushing it on me to re-think everything. I know what most of you are thinking, this YOUR wedding..which I agree with, but to not be sure if my father would be there and some of my closest friends was really difficult for me to handle. I didn't sleep for a few days, was super stressed out and just really freaking out about everything since we had some people booked, we were booked, photographer booked, etc. It took a while but we finally decided to change the location. This was a very difficult decision but it was really due to people dropping out and my worries that my own father would not be there. It's not always in my favor, but I am the type of person that likes to make othere people happy. I had already had some guilt with knowing that planning a destination wedding meant people who wanted to be there would spend a lot to go and then others would not be able to. I knew that I definitely still wanted to do a destination wedding, so we finally sat down and felt it was in everyone's best interest if we just changed everything to Aruba.

I have a lot of mixed feelings. I am sad that we will not be going to The Royal anymore because we were definitely looking forward to it, but I am happy about the new location. I found a great wedding planner who did my friend's wedding there and a beautiful location for the wedding. It is costing a little bit more than what we budgeted for Mexico but we knew that would happen. I am hoping that Kevin and I can go to the Royal PDC for our 1st. aniversary.

I just wanted to say that I still stalk this board! I have gotten so many wonderful ideas from you ladies and I love seeing all of your beautiful pictures and amazing details leading up to your wedding. I know all of you will have a gorgeous wedding there! I'm sad that I am not part of the Royal PDC bride family anymore :(

Even though I will still pop on here to see what all of you are up to, good luck with everything to all of you. This is a really wonderful group of ladies and I am so happy I could be a part of it.

With many happy marriage blessings,

Marisa

I'm really sorry to hear that you had to change your plans because of other people.  I'm really happy it all worked out for you though.  Origionally we were thinking about Aruba but it was over our budget. Hope you still check back in with us.  I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we still want to hear how everything is going for you during your planning and of course seeing your pics!

Hey ladies! We got back late last night. I am going to catch up on my readings and post my Review later this week. I also have to do a belated planning thread. Just wanted to check in to let you all know that our wedding was PERFECT! Despite all the complaining I did, I couldn't imagine our wedding being anywhere else. It was truly beautiful. My husband's birthday is on Christmas and we have not even started shopping yet. This week is going to be hectic but I will try to catch up soon. Hope everyone's planning is going well.

Hi everyone!

I feel like I've been reading this thread for SO long now (about a year, I think), so I thought it was about time that I actually speak up and say "hello" to everyone!  I'm getting married at The Royal PDC on February 5, 2011.  This whole forum has been a lifesaver, but this thread, in particular has been such a huge, huge help with this entire process.  I've never actually been to The Royal, but I still feel confident that everything will go perfectly just hearing every one else's positive reviews over the past several months :)

Having said that, it HAS been a while since I've been able to really sit down and catch up on all of the new posts!  It's crazy how much you get behind if you don't log on for a week, haha!

Nice to meet you all :)

~Sarah

Sorry for the late reply GC2008, but I can totally relate to the 1 hour away guests. My sister and aunt are trying to do this. They originally blamed it on finances, even though they both earn six figures and drive a custom BMW and Mercedes (respectively).  They wanted to stay an hour away in CANCUN because it was cheaper than Playa Del Carmen. I think they just want to party. So my plan of strategy - I sent them prices for the Real Hotel in Playa Del Carmen (This is the cheapest hotel of the Real Family - Royal / Gran Porto / than Real).  The Real is not on the beach and not nearly as nice as the Gran Porto or the Royal, but is much more inexpensive than its sister hotels.  The response that I got back from my sister and aunt - Crickets......

What's your people's excuse for Tulum?

i do have 4 guests staying in tulum about an hour away so they wont be spending any time with us including the welcome dinner...i will see them literally only for the wedding....although its there perogative, i think thats extremely rude.

thanks all for your responses!  im sure in the end i'll be extremely happy with the end result...i guess im just concerned about making everyone happy and as my FI say, i cant make everyone happy.  there will always be some complaining with whatever we choose to do...

Nadiah - thats a good plan...funny thing is that i had done that already.  i sent everyone the prices for the royal, gran porto and real hotels to give them different price range options.   my guests never really gave me a reason as to why they are staying in tulum other than the fact that they want to check that town out. oh well...

heres another dilemma - my FI thinks we should not give them OOT bags because they wont be coming to the welcome dinner, which is when i plan to give the bags to everyone...i will only be able to see my 'tulum' guests on the day of the wedding....

thoughts anyone?

GC2008,

hahahaha

I bet ur Tulum guests will be very disappointed with their choices! heehee.  First it is very far from the airport (I got drunk after a girls dinner in PDC and slept for 1hour in a cab and still didn't make it to my resort, The Bahia Principe Tulum/Coba/Akumal, and on the transfer to the airport, I took enough of booze to make sure I would sleep thru the whole 2 hours trip, last time), second it is very far from all other attraction except Tulum.  Third, none of the resorts are actually locate in TULUM, so errr...they will need a cab to get there. Fourth, there isn't much to see and to do in Tulum, it is a bit like Puerto Moreles with a pyramid and minus the big coral reef or PDC 15 yrs ago.

As for cheap guests with a deep wallet (a symptom of double standards). I hate to tell you girls this, these people usually end up punish themselves at the end.
