ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies, itâ€s has been awhile since Iâ€ve been on here and so much is going on!  Jess those pics are amazing!  I am totally going to work up the courage to do them now : )

Natalie your wedding looked so beautiful; I actually got a little teary eyed.  We are also using Funever as our photography and videographer due to budget reasons, I had requested Caesar  and I am glad to hear he was good to work with and I canâ€t wait to see the pics!  What time was your ceremony?  We are scheduled to have ours at 6pm on June 19 2011 but now I am wondering if the time should be moved back to 5pm or 530pm so we can have better sunlight for pictures.

Also we are doing the symbolic ceremony, but we are not telling our friends that we are getting married before we go to Mexico.  Does anyone know if the minister makes it a point to say itâ€s a symbolic ceremony or do you think they would be able to keep it quiet?  We really want June 19 to be celebrated our wedding date instead of the day that we are going to sign the papers.

As for the explosion over the weekend it breaks my heart that this happened, I canâ€t imagine what those families are going through right now, my thoughts and prayers go out to them.   I too was worried that our guest, we have 32 so far, would be concerned that this was an act of terror so I emailed everyone as soon as I heard about the story yesterday morning to let them know what was going on and that it was unpredictable and could have happened anywhere.  So far everyone is still on board for Mexico

lisa brings up an interesting point below, and I'd like the group for additional advice. my FI and I are a year and a half away from our prospecitve wedding date, and part of the reason we're planning so far in advance is that we wanted to allow people the maximum amount of time to plan and save for it. our wedding party is definitely on the smaller side - even if we'd stayed here in Austin, I think we'd only have about 20 - 30 people in attendance (which is why the destination wedding idea was so appealing).

nearly all of our friends who I've spoken with are thrilled about the destination wedding idea and say they're already saving money and making plans in order to go. I guess my biggest fear would be getting to mexico with just a handful of people and wishing I had stayed in Austin so that I could share the experience with more of our friends. in the end, I know my FI and family will be there, and that's what's most important. but for those of you who have a smaller circle of friends and family, what was your experience getting people to book? did people respond enthuiastically to you but when it came time to actually make reservations, did they back out? I know it's nothing you can control as a bride, but were you ok with having just a few people come? any regrets?

thanks!

I had people (even two in my wedding party, including my MOH) who are no longer going :-(. One of my bridesmaids still hasn't booked and we leave a week from today. O_o  ....people will have the best intentions, but realistically the majority will not.

I have in my notes (from my first read of the entire thread):

The Royal recommends no more than 7 (ideal) to 8 (maximum) guests per table.

I had one table with 8 and 3 tables with 6.  All the tables looked great and at the 8 it looked like they had plenty of room :)

I like the skirt the way it is - they may be using a hoop or petticoat to fan all the layers out in front of the camera. have you tried it on yet?

Everyone else I wish would just try and relax a bit, OH well.....heavy sigh!

I have a question for those who have already had their weddings: How far out did you mail your invitations? I sent my STD a year in advance and have gotten little responses. I'm starting to think people may go last minute and then it will throw off all my DIY projects and other items. I would love to hear what you did, or if this has already been discussed lead me to that forum. :)

I also got my dress this weekend and now feel like this is a becoming very REAL!! so excited!!! despite some family freaking out.

What do you think? I'm wondering if this will be to full, should I have the bottom taken out a little?? Thanks

Kelly,

A lot of my friends of my friends had full intentions on going, but when it came to fruition, it just wasn't possible. I noticed some factors, however:

FI has a about 8 friends going (they are all unmarried, no children and most are single)

I have 1 friend booked (unmarried, coming with her boyfriend)...supposed to have another friend coming, but she hasn't booked and well, wedding is in 8 days. Most of my friends are married with (small) children, so I think that played the biggest factor among my core group because even after the age of 2, you have to pay for their airline seat.

I will admit, I sometimes send FI a little sad face in IM convos lol and tell him I'm jealous that most of his good friends are going and a lot of mine are not, but I know that I will love and always remember my wedding in Mexico and how much I love him. It does bring me comfort that we are having a home reception, however, so my good friends WILL be at that. You would always do something at home- it can be as simple as a small casual bbq at home, to an elaborate affair, but your friends will definitely celebrate your union with you there :-). I hope that helps.

Hey ladies,

I have been back for about a week, but yesterday was my first day back to work which sucked big time!  I want to go back!

The Royal was perfect!  The service was phenomenal, the food was great (especially at Maria Marie and Asiana), and all of our guests had a fantastic time.  Although our wedding was small (only 25), we had lots of great times (and the pics to prove it - lol).

A couple of things:

Don't worry about the weather forecast before you get there.  It had actually forecasted rain the whole time we were supposed to be there, and the only time it did rain was the first day for 10 minutes.  Otherwise it was beautiful.  No need to stress about it.

We added several guests after we got there (last minute people that decided to go), and it was no problem.  I just paid the additional fee the day before the wedding when I met with my WC Denys.  No sweat.  Just make sure you let your bank know you're going to be in Mexico, otherwise your debit may get declined like mine did the first time.  :-)

We felt super safe the whole time we were there.  We had read that worrying about crime in the border towns is like worrying about a crime wave in Chicago when you're vacationing in Key West.  It's so far removed from the violent areas that it really isn't an issue.  Although my husband's mother didn't go because she's terrified of Mexico, she really would have had nothing to worry about.

Nate Broshot (that's his professional name) was the most amazing photographer, and he's way less expensive than the least expensive photographer we found in Playa.  He was one of the best parts of the wedding.  Check out my review on him in the vendor thread.

All in all, it was the best vacation ever.  I even met Randi, although when I met her by chance at the Asiana bar I didn't realize she was on the forum.  We still did shots, though!  :-)  Glad to hear her wedding went amazingly well also - she got married after we left.

Let me know if you guys have any questions - we were on a pretty tight budget, and we certainly found ways around some of their fees.  :-)

Kerri (the new Mrs. Morgan!!)

Hi!  Thanks so much!

My ceremony was at 5:00.  I thought it was a great time to do it.  We did rush a little bit during cocktail hour to get pictures but everything worked out great.  I didn't mind rushing the pics since i'm not big into posing for pics anyway.  Plus, since your in June...you'll have more than an hour more sun than I did, so i think a 6:00 ceremony is perfect in June :)  If you want a little more sun for first dance, etc...you can switch to 5.  I'll make sure to post my Funever pics when I get them.

We also did symbolic and it seems very official because you sign a certificate at the end in front of everyone.
