I'm not going to be doing an AHR either.  Part of the reason we did a destination wedding was because it would be cheaper than having a wedding at home.  We might have a small party at our house though...for our friends that weren't able to make it.

No AHR either! That's the beauty of a desitnation wedding. We invited everyone on our list (150) and are expecting maybe 40-60 guests. Hopefully more like 40. =) Save a little and have a ton of fun!! I'm so excited. We're going to do a welcome party at Blue Parrot. Anyone else using them?

Welcome Liz and Michelle and other newbies!

Kshows very cute card box!

Risa if it helps we are doing an AHR we wanted a really small ceremony so we're inviting about 40 but hoping the aunts and uncles will stay home. (that sounds so bad) but, I didn't like the idea of having everyone staring at me during those quiet moments ( vows, father daughter dance, dance with the groom, cute the cake etc ) I guess I'm just weird like that. I really just want our parents and bridal party to go.   Also being that my FI doesn't really have a big family but mine is HUGE! So when we get back we're having a chinese dinner reception which is basically tons of food and music.  It shouldn't be too expensive cause we're paying per table not per person.  But we'll see , that might come back to bite me in the ass.

Hi, just wanted to let you know Jes raved about a place called El Bistro La Torgua.  and we're having our welcome/rehersal dinner there.  We're doing it more cocktail style but they do offer regular dinners and stuff.  The only thing is I know some other girls on here have tried contacting them and they were told they couldn't have a private dinner there cause they weren't guests there.  But I had no problem.  I can give you the email and name of the guy I'm working with if you'd like.  Their prices are really good and the place is amazing looking.

We just found out that my fiance's dad would like to throw us some sort of dinner the night before the wedding.  He is not staying at the Royal, and we want to explore all of our options.   We'd like to keep the price "reasonable," as in under $700 for 15ish people (not incl. drinks).  Are any of you doing this sort of thing at the resort?  Do you know what they would charge?  Or do you have any suggestions as to where we could go off-site?  Any ideas you all may have would be appreciated.  I need to get on it quick, because the wedding is 2 weeks away.  :-)  Thanks!

I'd love a name an email, if you have it.  I've emailed them, but I know others have had issues just using the contact form on the website.  Thanks!

Really cute card box.

Jess, we have had TONS of issues with rebooking flights and travel agents. We had to physically go in and I had to go there. After that, they only called my FI-never me, lol! Anyway, I'm going to post about it in my planning thread. Anyway, I have connected twice in ATL which is a huge airport. Both connections were international and we had to recheck our bags and go through security again. I'm not sure but I think it's a US security thing. The setup is really not that bad because it's in a separate part of the airport that has its own security and baggage recheck. It's really a joke. You pick your baggage off the carousel on the carts they provide then roll it to the recheck section wHich is basically across the room. There are guys there who unload your cart and place your luggage on the next carousel. The next security line is only for guests arriving so it goes quickly. It's good that your TA remedied that but That's not the only concern. My concern is that you won't clear immigration fast enough to get to your flight. Maybe you should let the flight attendant know on your first flight that you have only an hour to connect. They can make an announcement for the other guests to remain seated while the guests with the tight flights depart. Keeping my fingers cross and sending a prayer up for you.

Ya this place is amazing! I just love the staff there and the ambiance is wonderful. I love the roof top terrace, it is a great choice :)

Thanks msglave! well I am so happy we do not have to go through this so we should be fine. I am going to let the stewardess know, we have 30 people on this flight with us so it should be easier to get our way lol I hope wink.gif

I am so sorry about your TA issues as well. I am going to do a full review also. It really can make or break things.

For the ladies worried about people not booking it soon enough, seriously, don't worry about it.  One piece of advice I have for others during this whole process is to only worry about the things that are in your control and this is not one of them.  I had 4 people (including my brother) book the trip this week and our wedding is December 4, 2010.  Just about 6 weeks away!!
