I hear ya, the reason for a DW is to save the money! We had 33 guests which was more than I planned on. We are having an AH reception, but cheaply. It would be another $10,000 to throw a blowout. My parents have a huge, really beautiful ranch with a lake/pond (and the bridge that hubby proposed on) so we're having it there. We'll have it in a huge open green field by the water. We're getting a live band (low key, not a head banger or anything) for the night. We have several Mexican workers employed by my dad and their wives cook amazing food, so we'll have them cater the event. It's in a small town, but everyone who couldn't make it to Mexico will be able to attend. Plus it lets me extend being a bride just a little bit longer.......

We're having one on January 8th at the Dallas World Aquariaum (wanted to somehow incorporate the theme lol) We are inviting 150 adults and 30 kids (yikes! FI insisted even though kids scare me lol) I have a huge family that would feel slighted if they weren't somehow included (I only invited immediate family to the Royal wedding), so I almost had to have one at home.

We also opted to not have an AHR.  Living in an urban area, it is just too expensive to have one.  Additionally, we live in a condo downtown, so having a party at our place is not an option.  We invited roughly 180 guests (albeit smaller than if we had a local wedding) to Mexico.  40 have booked the trip and we are definitely happy with our decisions.  

For the ladies worried about people not booking it soon enough, seriously, don't worry about it.  One piece of advice I have for others during this whole process is to only worry about the things that are in your control and this is not one of them.  I had 4 people (including my brother) book the trip this week and our wedding is December 4, 2010.  Just about 6 weeks away!!

I am not doing an AHR. I wanted to get married and do it once lol It does get to expensive and just crazy. I wanted to have the real thing done once lol. Have said that we invited 120 and 85 are coming. So to me it feels like an actual wedding since mostly everyone is going to be there.

 

16 days!!!!!!! we had more BS with flights what else is new. When we connect in FL we found out we have an our to go get our luggage and check back in again. Its absolutely stupid but nothing I can do now. I am just hoping we can make the connecting flight and that there wont be any more issues.

Jess we are inviting 130 people and thinking somewhere around 60-80 will go.......hey if less people go we will save more money lol..........

 

ugh good luck with that issue with Spirit Airlines.....airlines suck!

Yikes! My parents are flying on Spirit. Is this something new? Everyone with connecting flights has to transfer their luggage on their own? I thought the airline normally took care of that.

Where do you connect in Florida??  How long is your connection?  That's where I'm from so I'm pretty familiar with the airports.  That's so weird that they are making you do that...what airline?

Ya this is something new and they did not tell anyone!!! we only found out when we tried to pay for our luggage on line and it asked us to pay 4 times!!! we were confused about why. So I called them and they gave me some BS about how it was a direct flight to Florida and not a connecting?? Makes no sense.

 

The good news just got word from our travel agent that she talked to them and they agreed to change it wooo hooo finally something good.

 

I have been working with Jennifer now because well everyone knows what happened with Jill lol. She asked for me to give them a thumbs up for this one. So for this one thing they were able to do I greatly appreciate and do give her a thumbs up on.

 

However still bitter because we would not even be having this convo if we would have been moved to another airline when the Mexicana thing happened like other TA's did for their clients.

 

I am actually really surprised as a travel agency they didn't know about this and I found out just by chance I would have gotten to the aiport and freaked out. Same thing happened with Mexicana. Anyways.......lol

 

Anyone traveling on Spirit I would contact them or whoever you went through to book with them ie Orbitz Expedia TA etc apparently

Spirit just implemented this new policy that if you are booked in different classes of service for an international flight that they are requiring the grab your luggage and re-check in which is complete BS. They can't implement a new policy after the tickets were purchased and especially not tell anyone.

 

Jennifer went back and told Spirit the following

A)     They can not implement changes such as that after the flights are ticketed and purchased- it was sold as a married connection not as two separate flights.

      It may not be a legal connection if this is a policy they are sticking with

C)      They need to be sure that checked luggage makes it on the connecting flight

 

So I would call them and do the same thing just to be sure.

We connect in Fort Lauderdale which I do understand is a very small airport. Still though it is just so stressful with a dress in hand etc to have to go through that. Especially with only one hour who knows what could happen.

 

I know trust me we could not either and nor could ours and our parents bank accounts lol we thought 30-40 at first.
