It's been a while since I posted anything, but that was when I was "unofficial."  We put our deposit down today and I am getting married at the Royal on Saturday, April 2nd!!!  I am SO excited!!!  My only hope, dream and prayer is that the Capilla Nuestra Senora is free for us to have the ceremony there. It is the cutest chapel near the resort and I can just picture it all in my head.  I want a mariachi band to lead us from the ceremony to the reception.  Then a beach celebration it is!!!

Now I'm researching photographers.  Man, are they expensive or what?!?!  I'm looking into Sasha Gluck or Cecilia Dumas.  They are in the mid-range.  If I can figure out a way to win the lottery then I might have DelSol do our wedding. I'm trying to find someone who will do a combination of photojournalism and portraits, as well as include some other things like prints, online prints you can order yourself, albums, a TTD session...not sure.

Anyone else have their photographer booked and some convincing rationale as to why (besides the fact that its either Elizabeth Medina or DelSol, who we know now are both amazing)?

Hahaha..I know! When I saw the prices, I am convinced that I am in the wrong industry!

I went thru 100+ full wedding pics, my god bro is a pro-photographer, so he helped me a lot to narrow down.  He is in Vancouver and isn't sure if he is able to come to my wedding, so I had to hire a photographer...otherwise, I would have save some $$$!

DelSol and Elizabeth Medina are very nice photographers, but at $900-$1000 per hour, my god-bro said I can fly a top notch photographer from Canada..and would cost the same thing/ or save the $$$ to hire a lawyer to draft a top notch pre-nup /or buy myself a bling..mouhahaha

I had Cecilia Dumas to do my engagement sessions, I like her romantic style, my god bro didn't like her photoshop style/skill.  The pics turned out very nice, my god bro really likes them too.  You can check them on my photobucket account.  I booked Sasha Gluck for my wedding, because his style is similar to Elizabeth's one, god bro likes Sasha's works.

Ivan Luckie's works are really nice too, god bro said..it is the best price/value.  However, I still prefer the Elizabeth/Sasha Gluck style/lighting...it is more a personal choice.

For those who want prints and pics in lightening speed, Cecilia Dumas is the choice to go with!  She turned my pics in less than 3 days!  I was pretty happy to look at my engagement pics on the flight back to Canada!  She gave me the CD to print additional pics also.  So instead of waiting for weeks or months to have a sneak peak...you can have nice pics with you on your way back home.

I have a list of standard shots..teared from a wedding magazine..so..it is like a MUST have list for me.  I have so many DRAMA/ Horror stories about wedding pics (i.e. bride didn't have a pic with her and her mom...or photographer was a disaster) so I am doing my due diligence check like a tax auditor!...kekekek

Hi Jennifer congrats! we can add you to the list of dates now :) I think the photography is def an investment but in my opinion it is the most important one. The two names you listed do amazing work from what I have seen. I will actually be featuring a wedding by Sasha Gluck on my blog tomorrow.

I am using Samuel Luna. I chose him because his prices were great and I love his photojounalistic approach. His style is what really sold me.

Here you go. Got this a while ago. Just need to convert them.

The exact height of the round tables used for receptions 74 centimeters

And the measurement for how far across they are. 1.80 meters

The back of the chair is, 45 centimeters tall

The seat is off the ground and 47 centimeters tall

The back is. 92 centimeters wide

The red carpet is 1.60 x 20 meters. This is the carpet runner that they put down at the Gazebo.

The huppa fabric they use is 8 meters total. They are each 1.20 meters x 3 lengths which equals 8 meters total.

Yes!  Very helpful!  I agree with what you said about the prints.  Some lessons I learned from my sisters wedding "photographer phiasco":

1.)  Get an album made!  She still has a box full of proofs sitting in her closet.  The photographer was so expensive she had no $$$ left over for one of their albums!  (either that, or they didn't make them, I forgot)

2.)  Ask for a few formal portraits with the bridal party and family.  Some photographers are all about "capturing the moment" and their "photojournalist style" that they can't be bothered to do a few portraits.  My sister is STILL hearing from my mom about that (remember, our parents are from a different generation, there were no "photojournalist" weddings, or TTD sessions...)  You WILL want a few portraits!

3.)  Be bold and have the conversation about what the photographer will wear to your day.  One of her photographers was in a mini skirt and flashed everyone at the wedding while perched on the alter taking pictures!

Suffice it to say, I'm trying to be picky, but reasonable.  It's helpful to know what you want included in the price.

Hope this was helpful...

Thanks for the advice!

Also, as some others have mentioned above the low-mid range people that I have been looking at are Octavio Montes, Sasha Gluck, Ivan Luckie & Nate Cordova...all great choices depending on what you are looking for (and what you are looking to spend!)

I am most likely moving our wedding date up 2 months and getting married @ The Royal PDC instead of The Royal Cancun. This means a February wedding instead of April and we haven't done ANYTHING yet. Eeeek. Advice from other PDC brides would be amazing right now! We had everythingggg set @ The Royal Cancun and no we have to switch it.

PLEASE if you got married here or did a site inspection, we will most likely get married in the Central Gardens (?) and I would LOVE to see pics, and we are having about 100 people in one of the ballrooms for a reception. Please help in anyway you can! This is SO stressful, it was before and now this has just piled it on.

PM me if you have pics, post them here, anything would help!

Also, how far is it from the hotel and what type of transportation can we provide our guests?

For anyone already married or anyone who has looked into this...I'm in the process of working with Ana, my WC on booking appts for day of hair and make up. She said there is a spa at Gran Porto Real but the beauty salon is at Royal. Myself, mother in law and one bridesmaid is staying at Royal so that should be fine. My concern is my mom and the rest of the bridesmaids will be staying at Gran Porto, will they be able to go over to the Royal just to have hair/make up done without a day pass?

I was hoping to have hair done at Gran porto since that is where the wedding is....but that can't happen

I know its a LONG forum, but there are a bunch of pictures of the central garden and a couple of the ballroom from a couple months back. I remember looking at them when I had just started planning so perhaps look back to March of this year or so?  Lady Di & DianeP are two that I remember having lots of pics of their ceremony/reception uploaded, but there are definitely lots of others!!

Good luck planning! I know this forum has been SUPER helpful to me, so hopefully after a couple days reading through you might be able to get a couple pics.
