ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Hey Istephiez,

Welcome to the forum!!! How funny we are both from LA and are getting married at the Royal in May! :) Did they mention to you that they were able to get some kind of group rates? My travel agent and Zulma told me that they do not do group rate?!?!

Hi Istepiez,

Welcome! My travel agent said that they DO have a group rate, but you must pay a percentage up front, which would be super pricey.

Also, I am attaching a document with the coctail reception menu. The Hors d'oeuvres and Cocktails are $30 per person. I am reallly torn on if this is worth it or not. Shay- are you doing this? We are absolutely doing the reception, which is $50 per person.

So it turns out that the beach wedding is right in front of the pelicanos restraunt...in high season..which should pretty much make the wedding a show! I am seeing if I can move it to a bit lower traffic area..I doubt it but I have to try

ETA: no dice! Can anyone that has seen the pelicanos restraunt give me an idea of how public an area this is?

istephiez -- I was just catching up on my reading and had a few thoughts for you

Hotel rates: my travel agent did the negotiating with the hotel and we ended up with a 3 night package of $560 (including the transfers). I got married in November so I'm not sure if May is much different. November is not the high season....and neither is May so I don't think there should be much of a difference.

What I found is that the hotel did NOT show a lot of preferential treatment for the large size. I had all 82 guests stay at the Royal at some point or another (meaning some guests stayed 1 night and some stayed 7) but all in all they stayed there! I did end up getting the cocktail hour food cost waived. My quote for that was $10 pp and with 82 guests plus us, that saved $840. I did also get a free room for the night before the wedding for the groom. After our wedding a girl at the pool told us she had a wedding of 15 and rec'd $200 each for spa treatments and a free trip back! She was also married the year before....not sure if my negotiating is that bad or if the Royal has become more strict!

One last cost comment - I loved my flower centerpieces at the tables but it was dark when we got there so who knows how much people appreciated them. We had 11 tables and the flowers total cost was around $500....so if you can come up with a cheaper option that will be a way to save money.

If any of you ladies have questions directly for me it will be much more effective to PM (private message) me so I get an email. My email alerts with this string are kind of hit or miss and I'd hate for you to stress more waiting for a reply! After we PM we can just email directly....

Good luck everyone!

Just my 2 cents here:

We booked through condo villa hotel world and received a "limited time" discounted rate. I t wasn't a group rate, but for a month or so they gave us a discount on the room rates which helped a bit for some of us. I think I was the only one who booked through them, everyone else got a flight/stay deal through airtransat.

I was surprised to find out that march/april/and may are actually their high season. I would have rather gotten married in the low season but it didn't work out that way. They keep telling me that May is high season...I didn't realize that!

Hey Veronica!

Yes, we are doing a cocktail hour (and a half) immediately following the ceremony (cold hors d'oeuvres and champagne covered in our package), so we are not paying "extra" per se, but...we are paying the extra for the Luxury Package...so I guess it balances out.

We are doing the $50 reception, plated dinner on the beach as well.

Pelicanos is an open air restaurant with an entrance from the royal, and a public entrance from the street in between the royal and the gran porto real.

pelicano's isin't right on the beach... there is some greenery, then there are beach beds then there's the beach, SO someone having lunch at the restaurant wouldn't have a 100% clear view of your wedding.. BUT people out for a stroll near the dock or on the beach or even guests at the gran porto real could all see the wedding clearly... hope this helps...

Shay-
Good call! I wonder if we should upgrade our wedding package. I know that I will need my dress steamed, etc. But, I don't really need petit fours after the wedding.

Do you know if we can add services a la cart?

I've been doing a bit of etiquette research, and I am starting to think that we need a cockail hour.

Shay, I'm going to PM you for a few individual questions. Jentwo, I'm probably going to PM you too. Thanks for all your help ladies.
