Thank you so much for this review!! I'm having an indoor reception bc in June it's too hot to be outside. It was great seeing the ballroom pics. I have two ballrooms reserved bc I was afraid of being squeezed in a small space. Out of curiosity - does the resort offer any table decorations at all? Votive candles?

I had no idea they had that area for private parties. I love that!! I'm writing that down. The reception setup looks amazing. I'm in agreement as well on saving some $$ by having most events at the resort.

Did you use the resort for your flowers? I'm using Marvin from Maya Diseno and so far i've heard good reviews.

I have no idea where to start....I will be more coherent tomorrow and write my review, but for now off top of my head....

The Royal rox so much! I can't tell you how awesome it is. Even my rich bro and his partner (who go to really top notch places), raved about it. My room was amazing- it was a junior oceanfront and Jill had previously asked that I be near the gazebo so I wouldnt have to walk far. It was perfect! I was in room 534 which was a corner suite on the 5th floor just above gazebo. The elevator was right near the room and when I exited, I was right there in the walkway before turning to walk down the aisle. An added bonus to this room is that it has a side window as well next to the jacuzzi which takes up most of the wall

It was scheduled to rain during the whole week, but only rained 2x in the ten days i was there. It started sprinkling at 9:45 the wedding night and our reception ended at 9:30- what luck!

The sole groom on here, back from our wedding at the RPDC.  Lisa and I were married on November 30th on the beach in front of the gazebo.  We ended up going with the Mayan Ceremony, which turned out to be UNREAL!  We only invited 9 to our wedding, but about 100 or gathered around the beach to watch.  It was incredible!

We weren't really fussy about many of the details, so our planning process just went with the flow.  I think that helped keep the stress down.  In the end though, everything our expectations, and then some.  Zulma was our wedding coordinator, and our reception was at El Mediterraneo.  The staff at El Mediterraneo are incredible, and I would highly recommend this for anyones semi private reception.  Its also the coolest temperature wise, which was refreshing after a day in dress pants.  We used Sascha Gluck as our photographer, and for those who are considering him - please BOOK HIM.  He is polite, easy going, and though we haven't seen the final product yet, the shots he gave us a sneak peak at were incredible.  As I get more photos, I will try to post them along with a review.

In the meantime, if you ladies have any questions, I will do my best to answer them!

MIKE.

Welcome back Mike, so glad to hear everything went well!  I would love to see pics of the Mayan ceremony

Thanks for sharing your e-pics. They look great! I'll be posting my planning thread soon- I get married in 2 weeks and I'm also from Chicago. I got my Paloma Blanca dress from a small boutique in Hinsdale but most of my friends got their bridal dresses from A L'Amour in Barrington and they loved it. So happy we got our first beautiful snow fall of the year this morning...

Since you were staying near the gazebo, did you find it noisy with other weddings or were the sounds muffled pretty well?

ChicagoBride - I love your pics!! Black and white is so classic. I really liked the shot with the musician. What a great eye your photog has!!

Thanks ladies for all the nice comments about my e-pics! :)    So happy we squeezed them in before the snow we got this weekend, and as I'm sitting here it's 9 degrees in Chicago. thatswck.gif

TA Wendy here... I just returned last night from 2 nights at the Royal Cancun and 2 nights at the Royal PDC with a group of travel agents invited specifically to visit with the wedding staff and to see a couple of "mock weddings".

So we got to watch a Mayan ceremony as well as a Christian ceremony held in the Gazebo. I have to say the Mayan was just amazing. Calling in all of the elements, of earth, water, air and fire, ... very spiritual and unique!

We also got to have a full reception dinner in one of the ballrooms, and one in Pelecanos as well.

We saw a couple of real weddings going on, one on the beach and one on the grassy center courtyard area. Everybody was most obviously having a fantastic time. Throughout the resort, the staff is fantastic, food delicious, rooms spacious and beautiful and the beds soooo comfy! (Love the pillow  menu!)

The Royal remains one of my very top picks for resorts in the area. They really have it together and will make your special day just amazing!

Best wishes to all!

TA Wendy

Did you use the resort for your flowers? I'm using Marvin from Maya Diseno and so far i've heard good reviews.

Two ballrooms should be perfect! The set up I saw for another wedding in the ballrooms looked great. They had 2 rooms and it looked like plenty of room for tables, dance floor and moving around. I think the standard table decoration is a hurricane lamp with candle inside. It's pretty plain. I asked if the resort could provide votive candles for the tables and I was told no (so I brough my own). I've heard good things about Marvin, you should see if he can do your centerpieces, if you want to use flowers on the tables. The resort flowers are pretty expensive and I wasn't that impressed with the flowers we got (bouquet, bout and corsages). I did see flowers for other weddings when I was in the Wedding Center one day and they looked nice. Maybe it's hit or miss.

Good luck with the planning!

Hi Ladies!

I just got back last night and will post pics and a review later.

One thing I wanted to communicate now is for brides this month and next.  We (and none of our guests) brought light jackets or sweaters for the evening time.  It is cold at night, mid to low 60s and it gets that cold by 8pm.  Luckily we gave all of the ladies pashminas in their OOT bags, but they could have used additional clothing.  We all brought light dresses for evening time.  So, bring something.  Even the guys were chilly in pants and short sleeves.

Ok, back to work.  I will try to post my review and pics by the weekend.
